If you were deferred for regular decision by Yasle, do you think it might be acceptable or worth it to send essay revisions? In other words, not sending completely different essays but a revisions of the ones they already reviewed?

How would you do this?

Nope. I thought about that too, after I got deferred, and your essays are pretty much set in stone from the get-go.

It's definitely possible to fix a typo, perhaps a spelling mistake, but any more than that and you're out of luck. :[
I feel your pain!

I would send them a fresh copy in the mail with my letter of updates.

Hmm...

Celita - no, no, no!

My DD was deferred last year and is now home from New Haven - yes she was accepted RD.

Do not resend your essays. Bad idea for so many reasons. First of all, no matter how good your second essays would be, an admissions person would have to wonder why you didn't give it your best the first time.

Look over your application. Is there someone that could write a letter of recommendation that could provide a compelling reason why Yale would want you? Not another teacher, but a coach or employer who would know something about you that would really provide some pertinent information about your merit.

Next - what have you done your senior year that was not included on the original app?

My suggestion is to write a BRIEF cover letter telling Yale that they are still your first choice ( if that is true) and attach an update summary of accomplishments.

Good luck and hope you hear happy news RD.

Thanks for the advice worknprogress

I'm a bit stumped.. since I think there are some BAD grammar and awkward wording in a few essays that might do me in. :(

Celita, I wouldn't do anything to revise or resend essays. Agree with worknprogress. Plus, I'm not even sure they'd accept them. I think you just have to go with what you sent. Other advice though on reminding them of your interest in Yale and updating them with new things you might be doing senior year is fine. My daughter did that after being deferred EA and was accepted RD.

so...a letter showing genuine, extreme interest will help all of us, or just the deferred?

Just for deferred. A way to remind the admissions committee that you are still interested. For RD, it doesn't make sense.

i mentioned this question somewhere earlier, but what exactly is the best time to send supplemental materials...now or in February?

If you're in the running for awards that will be announced in early winter or have anything extracurricular going on now, I'd wait so you can tell them the latest good news about what you're up to. If nothing is going to change in your profile, I don't think it matters when you send it in.
