Sending Financial Aid Documents Late??

They sent me an email abotu a week ago saying I needed to turn in my Tax returns and such. I already turned in my CSS and FAFSA stuff. Is it too latae to be consiidered for financial aid packages? I was recently admitted and plan to attend but really need to get on this. I didn't think i was going to get in and kinda neglected it.

might as well try! print the fax cover sheets and fax over copies ASAP

Okay forsure… hopefully ill be okay. very negligent of me

the only thing im missing is the CSS profile but i wont be able to finish that up until my dad gets back on monday. is the CSS a big deal?

USC uses the CSS/Profile to distribute USC grants. If you have not filed the CSS/Profile and submitted copies of tax returns, there will not be USC grants in your financial aid package.

okay. i have my tax returns in though, just need to finish that CSS. but theres still time to get the FA stuff in right? i hear they send u the package after ur letter.

It is possible that you will still receive your full aid, despite missing the CSS/Profile February 2nd deadline by almost two months. Your financial aid package will not be available until after all of the on-time applicants have been completed, and you might not know about your aid until near or after the May 1st commitment deadline.

Please read the FAQ thread. This question - and many others - appear in it and are more thoroughly answered there.

Good luck.

okay. thanks so much!

Unfortunately this happened to me too. I am the first to go to college in my family and we know little to nothing about financial aid. As soon as I got my acceptance letter I started working on and sent in my CSS profile and tax documents (I had already done FAFSA).

Do you know if the deposit we have to send it commits us to the school? Or is it impossible to go back after making a decision on May 1st? I come from a low income family and I have a sister going to college in the same year so it would be impossible for me to go to USC without a hefty financial aid package.

Hi quackquak!

Congratulations on your acceptance! In most cases USC still offers full aid when some documents are late, the only problem is sometimes you do not get your package until after May 1st, when commitment deposits are due.

I am not sure which deposit you are asking about, so I’ll tell you about both:

You should make your housing deposit of $40 now if you think there is a chance you will attend USC. It does not committ you to attending, it just gets you in line for housing. If you decide to go elsewhere it is not refundable, but really helps get the housing of your choice.

-Do not make your enrollment comittment deposit yet. (I think it is $400.) It is not due until May 1st, and there is no advantage to submitting it early. It is not refundable if you find you cannot afford USC. Wait until you have received your financial aid information from all your schools so you can make the best choice.

If you have not received your financial aid from any of your schools by the third week of April, contact all the schools you are considering and ask for an extension for submitting the deposit until the financial aid packages are available. Get the answer in writing. Most schools will grant an extension to students who need financial aid to attend.

Again, CONGRATULATIONS on your acceptance and welcome to the Trojan family!

I have submitted my financial aid documents and am awaiting confirmation that they have received what I sent. I will talk to my parents about getting the $40 housing deposit in.

Thanks for your help!
