Hello, I have a question regarding immunization records that we have to send to Bama. I was wondering, do I send my immunization records to them now, even if I am unsure if I will be attending? Or do I wait until I know for sure? I am thinking I wait, since Bama won’t need my immunizations if I don’t attend, but I was not sure what the standard was to do and I don’t want to delay my registration/etc. if I do attend.

I was trying to find this information online, but was unable to and Bama is closed for spring break, so I thought I’d ask on here. Thank you for your help!!

If you send in the forms and later decide not to attend UA, your forms will be securely destroyed in accordance with UA’s document management policies.

I’m not sure that the Student Health Center is on anyone’s radar during BamaBound (they assume that all students have already been to the campus, so I think they do not go into depth about it). I took my S to the SHC during BB, and walked him through the process of how to get treated there - the forms to fill out, where to get prescriptions (right there in the lobby), etc., specifically if he were to get sick. I think going there and touring the place beforehand eased him mind a bit. He had to go there pretty early on in his FR year. You’ll want to be sure that your health insurance info is on file, so copays and other misc expenses don’t end up on your student’s Bama account by default…only to be found much later (and late fees can be assessed if you don’t discover this in time!).

At our Bama Bound session there was an area of the Ferg (student center) set up to drop off/pick up health forms. We dropped off forms there, but also took S to the SHC as aeromom mentioned. Turned out to be a good decision for us also. S needed to make a visit during his freshman year, and it was a relief not to be worried about records (including insurance) in the middle of a health concern.

Make sure you send your student with their own health insurance card (or copy of yours), and have them put it in their wallet (not stored in dorm room!). You can request a duplicate card from your insurance co, or print one off from online.
