Is this appropriate? I read that on Brown’s old application, they requested a personal photo. Do universities, particularly Brown, prefer that students do this? I am considering submitting one if it is appropriate to do so…does it help give adcom’s a better idea of what kind of person you are?

What do you recommend?

This is no longer something people usually do (I haven’t heard of anyone doing this recently) , but some colleges such as Pomona still have an optional photo. I don’t see why it could hurt though. I think in general you cannot judge a person by their picture, but submitting a photo might help them attribute everything on your application to a person rather than just a name.

They used to do this and stopped for a reason. It’s just a bad idea, because then people may be judged by their picture. The less insignificant things you send the better IMO.

@wolfmanjack - Just curious, why did they stop doing this?

See post #3 above.

Oh I see. So it could potentially hurt your application by submitting one?

It could also make you look a little desperate at this point sending in extra stuff that isn’t necessary. If you’re in your app should’ve done the work for you.
