I know another person just posted a thread about this, but I didn't want to steal theirs so here I go! Alright, I'm nearly done with my applications, but by now I'm about 90% sure that I do not want to go to Swarthmore, one of the colleges I applied to. Instead, I wish I would've followed my gut and applied to Carleton, which is also appealing because of the free app. Here is my problem, though: would it be a hassle to my guidance counselor or my teachers to send in an extra rec--Carleton's deadline is Jan. 15? Note, I would be applying through the common app, and they've already sent me recs through that format, but do you think it would still be a problem? Do teachers/counselors usually keep those forms? I just feel like, by applying, I would be inconveniencing them, which I would really like to avoid. On the other hand, I am seriously considering giving Carleton a shot. Who knows, maybe by New Years this crazy compulsion will have passed.

You should apply to this school, definitely. It should not be a hassle for your GC or teacher. They likely have your rec stored on the computer or have extra copies of the common app forms. In any case, explain just as you did here, that you have been thinking further and regret that you did not follow your gut instinct to apply to Carleton.

Good luck.

Go ahead and apply. It can't hurt, and yes, they do usually keep the recs, so it shouldn't be a problem, as long as you approach them the first day back at school. It is far better to go to the extra trouble than to always wonder if that would have been the best place for you.

Go for it! Your teachers and school shouldn't have a problem sending out the rec's by the deadline if you get to them as soon as school gets back in session. You could even email them and let them know ahead of time that you're sending out one more application. They shouldn't mind at all.

Have you visited both schools? Don't make a final decision without first hand evidence.

I agree, don't worry about asking school to send out one more app support.

Hey kid, its the whole rest of your life! If you really think you would like to go to Carleton, don't let the fear of inconveniencing someone about a single letter or form hold you back. Go for it.
