Sending in AP Scores?

Hi, I’m an IB sophomore right now and today I took the AP World History test, and I’m kind of worried. I mean it wasn’t TOO bad (essays were easy) but the multiple choice has me worried. Anyway, I was wondering, do I have to pay money to hide AP scores from my college applications? I already want to hide two scores (AP macro/micro… don’t take two online semester classes at the same time… freshman mistake) and I’m scared my dad might be super angry if I have to hide any more. I haven’t sent in any scores as of now.

Yes. But it’s really a waste of money. AP scores will not make or break your application. Plus you send in your AP scores after you’ve decided on a college to attend. For the application process, you self report (or not) your scores on the application; it’s entirely voluntary (at least for the common app).

@skieurope Oh, okay, so if I do self-report my scores, I choose which scores I want to send? I don’t have to send them all in?

If you self report your scores, you can choose to report any/all/none of them.

Keep in mind, however, that if your transcript lists an AP course as having been completed, and you have not reported a corresponding score, you run the rick of admissions officers thinking one of three things:
• Financial hardship prevented you from taking the exam
• You were not motivated enough to take the exam
• You took the exam and performed poorly
The first one will not affect your application; the last 2 may raise an eyebrow. AO’s can, and have, contacted GC’s to explain why there are no AP scores reported.

@skieurope Hmmm… okay. So do you think it’d be better to send in the bad scores or just send good ones? Wow these decisions!

I wouldn’t be too worried on AP WH. According to a few AP Calculators you can miss around 40-50 multiple choice and get all 6’s on FRQs and still get a three. Of course you’d want to shoot for as high as possible, but I wouldn’t be too worried.

@parakeety If the score is 3 or higher, I would certainly send.

Thanks for replying and sorry for being late. Interesting… I’ve always seen anything below a 4 as bad. I got a 3 on an AP exam last year, so should I send that too?

What are you’re actual scores? I wouldn’t even consider hiding anything that is a 3 or above. I am going to Indiana University next year, and they give elective credit for a 3 on almost every exam.

For some AP tests like English Language, only like 20% of students get a 4 or higher. A 3 is not a bad score.
