Deadlines do get extended in certain circumstances and for certain students. Thats a fact. You (actually the adults, since its contracts that get discussed) can call the schools to discuss the case and receive the extension. The school that gives this extension (we have to assume neither one knows about another since then this convo is moot) will NEVER ask for a deposit. They will just wait till the newly established deadline. Thats another fact.

That’s really news to me. I sent in my deposit to one school, called the other and told them my situation (and then sent money in with forms). The one I sent in first was coordinated through a very nice email conversation and a few calls. The latter was just me explaining and them saying “fine”. They told me to pay the dep. but nothing else (though I originally thought I needed to buy the TRP).

I would have asked them but I thought that was beyond what I could ask for. I am, now, surprised if this is the case. I did not establish anything other than our situation and when it would be settled. They both gave me one day beyond the date we had asked for.

That being said they may very well refund me after a decision is made, the school I choose not to go to. I am not even fully sure of all the terms, mostly my dad who sorted it out. I know a few of the conditions and dates, however.

There’s a lot of confusing language here. Are you claiming they both know you gave a deposit to the other and approved this?

My point here has nothing to do with Viola but to let othere here know that this is unacceptable to schools.

They both know. My point was one was for more happy to do this.
I do not know. I do not work in in the admissions office, the only thing I can tell you is what has happened to me.

If what Principalviola said is so…that (a) he/she paid deposits to two prep schools and informed each school of such deposits and (b) each school accepted such deposits and agreed to work with him/her and the other school on enrollment in the fall…, then we have reached the end of story. If, however, he/she is not shooting straight here, then someone on this thread must cite the written law, rule, regulation or contract that Principal violated here. Until then, I suggest that we leave the poor child alone.

I’ll bet you almost anything this is not a “poor child,” but what it is is unclear. If you’re going to spin out inconsistent, conflicting fantasies on a public chat board with people looking for real information, you’re going to be challenged.

I don’t think there’s a rule that says if you also desposit in another school your offer of admission will be withdrawn. It’s more of an ethical issue. It reminds me of a joke I heard a long time ago. This happened in another country. A city was trying to stop people from spitting on the ground in the public by imposing a fine. The person in charge caught someone and asked a $5 fine. The man offered $10 and spit again and left with a “keep the change”.

Yes, because what I “spit out” is a fantasy.

Yes, much of it seems to be. This has made me so curious as a trustee of a school that competes for candidates with the NE prep schools that I plan to research this thoroughly. Will get back…

At my school, if asked there would be a clear NO, and anyone discovered to have done this would have their acceptance rescinded.

May I ask which is your school? On this board a few people seem to have done this scott free… I am sure they do it to be hospitable so the candidate is more likely to opt for their school.

PPV=■■■■■.

The two posts by you have been the most ■■■■■-like. You hijack threads with absolutely no knowledge of anything just to start fights (and boy, I am biting… :(). Get a life.

Obama, I haven’t seen all 57 of your posts, because I don’t enjoy reading through posts trying to pointlessly prove people wrong, but of the maybe two I have seen, all you have said was PPV was a ■■■■■ and nothing really else. They contribute nothing to the topic. Could you please just stop?

Oh my bad, you also said you wonder if he has a life other than CC…

When you leave a deposit you are in fact signing a contract.
Is that the case? So if you contract at 2 schools to attend then you are in break of at least one contract.
You cant do this in college. I dont know why it would be ok in prep.

The deposit only comes with the completion and signing of a contract so, as HockeyMom3 says, if you are depositing at more than one than you are intending to break one contract. It is an ethical issue for sure, but can also be a practical one since if you are found out, your admission to both schools can be rescinded. I do know that directors of admission meet and compare notes some time in May…names are shared at that time.
