I am applying to a number of highly selective boarding schools in New England. While I have submitted my applications, I just received news that I won a math award (AMC 8 results). Is it too desperate or something to send the admissions offices an email explaining that I received this award after I submitted my application and that’s why I am telling them in an email? The deadlines for applications are quickly approaching, but they haven’t passed.
Did you already have your interview at each school? If not, you can bring it up then. If so, and you haven’t yet sent a thank-you note, send a thank you note and include the information in there. If you HAVE sent a thank-you note, you can send a brief e-mail (also directly to the AO who interviewed you at each school), saying you just wanted to update him/her on some good news. Keep it short. Lots of applicants send them updates or supplemental material, so they won’t see it as too desperate.
Think of your admissions process as a conversation. You will want to update your preferred schools with significant events in your academic life as they occur, AT ANY TIME until March 10 (or beyond). You and your admissions interviewer are working as a team to develop a full portrait of you.
It would be a breach of trust NOT to tell your teammate of any changes, positive or negative, in your joint effort to develop this full portrait. You really owe it to your admissions interviewer to keep him/her updated at all times.
No question- send an email with the information. Do not apologize for sending the information. Send it as a continuing part of your admissions conversation- an update; no “explanation” required. Simply ask them to update your file with this happy news!
Good luck!
Yup. Address email to the admissions department. Ire dived a couple of awards after I submitted my application. I just attached proof of the award and emailed it with a simple message. I apologized though for the inconvenience.
I would really recommend that you dialog with your admissions interviewer, not generically with the admissions department.
Ok, thanks. I have already had all my interviews and I’ve sent thank you notes and everything. I just wanted to make sure that this wouldn’t seem as if I was just grasping at straws to improve my application. I will send emails to the AO that interviewed me.
Congratulations to you @hopefulprep01 ! I hope this does not really count as hijacking a thread, I happened to find this thread while thinking about this topic. My school’s semester reports will come out on the 16th. My counselor only sent a screenshot of my grades from the online gradebook, which does not include my grades from my final exams. Should I send the semester report as well?
Yes, send the final grades.
