Sending in extra stuff with your application

Are people allowed to send in samples of their artistic work with their applications? Basically, I make animated cartoons, and have been for a long time. And I think that it would be unique and set me apart if I could send a cartoon I made to the schools I'm applying to. Is this a bad idea? Are people allowed to do this? Thanks.

Your certainly allowed to send in extra material, though i'd stick a few caveats on that. Keep any extra materials to an absolute minimum, i've personally heard an admissions officer say they tend to hold applicants who send just way too much extra material in a negative light. If you send a single cartoon i'd advise trying to send in with another part of your application, (like an actual hard copy of the app if ur applying via paper or your secondary school report) this way it is more likely to make it to ur folder. Also note, that whatever u send must fit into a manila folder most of the time. Often CD's or bulky supplements won't fit and thus won't make it into your file.

Best of Luck!

So I should give it to my guidance counselor to send with the school report? Also, its 8 minutes long, is that too long?
