Good evening, everyone. I was recently waitlisted to Columbia SEAS. While realizing I was informed only to write a one-page personal statement, I'd like to know if it is still possible for me to send in any musical compositions or recordings to aid my application. Thank you.

Sure go ahead, it probably won't hurt.

Thanks, dude.

I sent in a video of my piano performances for my application. I dunno... if you're truly hot s**t, it can make a difference, otherwise it's wasting the admission officer's time.

Thanks; Uhhh iono my best (and only) Classical is Fantasie Impromptu by Chopin; other than that i basically freestyle really well and literally play from strangers' iPods

um... I was asked to send something in in mid feb. I wouldn't bother unless they ask you to, but it probably won't really hurt you either, unless you catch the adcom on a bad day.

I went with my boyfriend (who was waitlisted at CC) to admissions and they told him explicitly to send in absolutely nothing but a letter of intent. Maybe SEAS is different, but the woman seemed pretty firm about it.

What is a letter of intent, mystery?

A letter indicating the waitlistee's strong preference to still attend Columbia, what he/she could bring to the school, what Columbia could do for him/her; basically guaranteeing that, if admitted, the applicant will matriculate.

Colleges seem to take them pretty seriously... a while back someone from my school sent in a letter of intent to Princeton, got in, and didn't matriculate. Needless to say, it was 10+ years and a lot of negotiating before anyone from my school got accepted to Princeton.

So, you're saying that Columbia doesnt prefer supplemental ,materials like articles, journals, music, videos etc?

The woman told us they want no supplemental recommendations, essays, or anything creative. I'm sure you could include any recent accomplishments in the letter of intent, though.

Thanks mystery!

Yea thanks everyone. I'm going with my girlfriend to SEAS next friday hopefully.
