For domestic interviews (or whatever they're called), do you need to email them, or no? And does the supplement have to be in by December 1st? Thanks!

The Havard website says to send in the CommonApp by December 1 in order to receive an interview.

No, pretty much any applicant who applies by the hard deadline of January 1st will be offered an interview, and interviews are helpful to you, so you should do what you can to arrange one.

As noted above in the earlier thread,

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/1061251576-post11.html

into which the new thread was just merged, you can, if you just can't handle getting even contact information in by December 1st, wait until the absolute deadline to submit your application. But it's helpful to you and to the admission committee to get your contact information in sooner, so that the admission committee has more time to work with in scheduling interviews for applicants with the alumni volunteers all over the world who do the interviews. I guess this concept is familiar to me because I have heard this explained live by Harvard admission representatives at information sessions in my town. You have the absolute deadline for getting all your application materials in. (Indeed, you can take your last college entrance tests for Harvard admission AFTER the turn of the year.) But you help yourself, and help others, by responding with your contact information by December 1st. You won't be penalized if you don't, but responding later leaves less time to schedule your interview.

This thread merges together a lot of different threads raising this question. I thought the issue was more clear to begin with, but anyway here is the answer.

I don't think it matters.

I didn't contact them. I was contacted for my interview.

i was wondering the same thing! i asked my college counselor, who went to harvard himself, and he said DEFINITELY SEND IT IN. then, you can just call once your materials have been received and tell them you're taking the december test. then once you receive your scores, and you know that they've received them too, call them and remind them. i kinda wanted to put it somewhere on my actual application...but i'm not sure where...

I am confused. What should be submitted by December 1 to meet their special deadline? Do I just need to submit the Common App without payment or the supplement, the Common App with the supplement, Common App with payment, or all 3? Please help. Only 1 day and 2 hours left!

if you get your common app in on or before dec. 1, then you'll be at a greater advantage because they'll have more time to look at your app and more time to schedule interviews

i think it's only the common app, but i'm going to go ahead and send in all three probably tomorrow (or monday the 1st at the latest)

well i submitted the common app and payment but i dont know about the supplement because I won't have my essay ready by then so anyone else?

i think they just want the common app for dec. 1, b/c the supplement is basically just some of the same stuff plus an optional essay

thanks peyton but please. any other opinions?

Send the Common App and the Application Fee by December 1 if possible. Essays and Supplement can go later.

Harvard College Admissions Office: Prospective Students

Immediately
Please Send:
*The Common Application or Universal Application
*$65.00 application fee or a fee waiver request.

The Short Answer about one of your activities, the Personal Essay and the Harvard Supplement may be sent at a later date. NOTE: After you have submitted an application through either the Common Application or Universal Application website, you are no longer able to edit your on-line application. Therefore you must mail your Short Answer, Personal Essay and Harvard Supplement if you choose to submit them separately.

December 1

We will begin our careful evaluation process on this date, reading applications in the order in which they are completed.

Our alumni/ae interviewers will appreciate your sending at least the Common Application/Universal Application by this date to allow them to begin the interviewing process in areas where this is possible.

We recognize that you and your secondary school teachers and counselors may have many commitments that may preclude December 1 submission of your admission materials. If so, please be assured that you will not be penalized in any way.

I know that I cannot change the CommonApp once I send it in, but does this include the Harvard Supplement? In other words, when I send the CommonApp via the internet, is the supplement automatically sent as well?

no, the supplement is completely separate

and actually, you can change the Common App -- if you go to the instructions (very top bar on the left of the screen) and go to section about alternate versions, it tells you how you can create more versions of your common app so that you can change some things

i have done this, and have 3 versions (original plus 2 extras -- for minor changes between colleges)

here's the link for the instructions on how to make more versions:

eatingfood: Was your friend from "Muurrland" as well? I'm only asking b/c I'm a Marylander too and I'd be interested to hear who the interviewer was since word on the street is there are some very "powerful" ones in our area. Just curious :)

i just submitted it all: common app, supplement, and payment

that lifted a nicely sized weight off my chest

I am just going to submit CommonApp and payment b/c not quite done with supplement essay.

[qoute:]are the interviews weighted heavily?[/qoute]
You may want to read this

yeah i sent it all too. hopefully sending it in dec 1 has some unwritten advantage to it, i.e. less tired adcoms reading, more time spent on app, etc. :]

Is it too late for the priority deadline or can I still send the app today?
