sending in the application early...

Sending in today (1 December) meets the request of the admission committee to try to precede the hard deadline at the turn of the year.

so it's good? (sorry - couldn't really decipher the meaning)

Just send it in when you are able and don't worry about it.

Be absolutely sure to meet the hard deadline by the turn of the year.

Thanks. I was worrying too much I guess . . .

So it won't affect getting interviews too much?

^i meeeean it might, thought it likely depends on where you live.

I submitted my app and I live in an area where there are probably interviewers abound (Maryland/DC Area), but I still haven't gotten an interview.... so who know what could happen if you wait until january what with 27000+ applicants and all.

I emailed CommonApp about if the supplement will automatically be sent when the main common app is sent out and they said YES:

Thank you for your message.

Please be informed that the supplement will also be sent electronically.

Again, thank you for contacting Technical Support. Please contact us again if you need additional assistance with this incident.

I though we only had to send the Common App part. How do I do that when the supplement will also be sent automatically

I think they meant if you sent the Common App online, you have to do the same with the Supplement. When I submitted, the site didn't automatically send the supplement - I checked the status and it said "Not submitted."

^ yeah, you have to physically push the submit button on the supplement, but it'll send online just like the common app will

Basically, teacher recs are precluding me from submitting the Common Application, but I am still capable of submitting the Harvard supplement right now. Is there value in doing so? Or is 12/1 not as special as some people make it out to be, meaning I should stop stressing and submit my complete application (Common + supplement) by, say, 12/5?

I know Harvard asks for your application early so that they can build your portfolio, so are they able to make a folder for applicants with just the info from your supplement?

Would I be in any sort of disadvantage if I submit my application in 15 December ?
And can I arrange an interview before submitting my application? (I'm international)

harvard isnt an all-in-one school, so yeah it counts

I haven't read all these posts, but people should relax.

Like TokenAdult said, sending your application in early December just helps the admissions office. They know you are applying, and can start a file on you, and also assign an interviewer. This suggestion to send the app. in early is a result of Harvard getting rid of early action or decision or whatever it is they had before last year. Without the early decisions, Harvard could get swamped by applications all at once, Jan. 1st. The early crowd used to break it up into two waves.

Last year, anyway, once the common app. was sent electronically, the supplement and essay were sent by postal mail, later, and it could be much later, just before the hard deadline (Jan. 1st?).

As for test scores, our daughter took an SAT II in January, AFTER applying, and it was fine. For her SAT's, she didn't tell them to send scores anywhere until she had taken her last ones, I believe. She didn't put any scores on her application, herself, at all. Maybe guidance did, I don't know. Anyway, she didn't think about it much and it all worked out.

Admissions is just a bunch of human beings who have to read files and go over everything, and sending stuff in early just helps them with their task. But they emphasize there is no penalty for not doing so.

This is correct. Harvard has consistently said that the January tests are timely for its single-deadline admission cycle. Indeed, even the February ACT is timely. You can look that up in the Harvard viewbook, which you can Google up.

If I only sent in my CommonApp and payment by dec. 1st, is it still considered as meeting the priority deadline? I saw that on the Harvard supplement form, it reads "Please send by December 1st" or something like that.

compmom, but won't the AdCom be more tired/jaded with the 1000th applicant than with the 100th?

This may sound really stupid, but in terms of the "priority" deadline being December 1st, if I sent it in at 9pm on the evening of December 1st does that still count as priority?

I think on December 1 is good for the deadline

But I don't think it should matter much, as long as you sent it earlier than Jan.1

^agree with Lalala

bms2009 is referring to the interview priority deadline thing; and yes, that should be fine

Hello everyone.
I was wondering whether it's looked upon very unfavorably if you don't apply to Harvard by 12/1?
I'm planning on sending my application in today or tomorrow, and though I don't think I have a very good chance (I was just deferred Cornell ED), I'd like to know how much WHEN you apply is considered.
