Just a quick question for you guys... My current SAT score is 1400 (750M 650V) and I'm re-taking on December 4. I'm anticipating that this score will go up. Should I wait until I get the score before sending it to my schools? (just in case it goes down) Or should I just send it to 4 schools for free, like CollegeBoard allows you to do.. B/c I can find out the score on Dec 17 i think, which is 2 weeks before the apps are due, for the most part (most deadlines for me are Jan 1)... Also, if I want to send my scores to the schools now (with the 1400) and the score goes up, how will I know if they've received my new score if I send it after Dec 17? b/c for some of the schools i'm applying to, my acceptance may actually hinge on that improved score (not really sure, its Ivies we're talkin about, u never know with them.. a 1450-1500 would be a significant difference from a 1400).... Anyways, not really sure if my question makes sense, cuz its sort of hard to put into words.. hope you understand what i'm trying to get across.... Thanks - any responses at all will be greatly appreciated!

one other thing - if I send scores on Dec 17 (after learning of the new score) will they be received by Jan 1 at my schools, or will they need to be rushed? Thank You! (i knew there was another part of my question, i just couldn't think of it, LOL)

If you rush the scores, you can view them before send. However, you have to find out, at each school, if they will accept rushed scores. Good luck!

SmartA: if you wait to find out your scores, and you want to send them bcos they went up, then, of course Rush them. But, you can also print out an unoffcial report (what you view online), and fax it to the colleges with a note that the official scores are forthcoming from collegeboard by rush. Make sure you put your name and SSN clearly on the cover fax page and your unofficial score page.

this whole thing confuses me... why should I pay the RUSH fee for every single school i'm applying to? shouldn't I just send the scores normally... I don't know how long it takes the schools to receive scores from December - any1 have any idea? I mean, if the deadline is Jan 1 then i should prob rush, but if its like Jan 10 or 15, can I just send the scores normallly? Also, I already have it set up on my SAT registration ticket to send my scores to FOUR schools... Only reason I'm holding out is in case my scores don't go up... would there be any way of preventing the schools from seeing it? but it might not make a difference, since most schools take ur highest combined LOL some1 help me out, this is really confusing me! Thank you to those who responded already

this question was asked already, but not answered - "if I want to send my scores to the schools now (with the 1400) and the score goes up, how will I know if they've received my new score if I send it after Dec 17?" In other words, does it make sense for me to submit these apps in early to mid December as I finish them, or wait until I get the SAT scores back to put the score on my application?

S-123: Your question and motivatin are clear: like all of us, if you get a 1500+, you want the scores in the adcoms hands. But, if you get 1300, you'd rather not send anything. I can't comment on whether its wise to sign up for the free reporting, but the Ivies all claim that they ONLY look at the top scores of each test (not sitting).

But, the process is as follows:

the cb website above notes that Dec test scores will be mailed by Dec 30. Thus, if your app deadline is Jan 1, the new scores will arrive in time with the rest of your materials if sent by the cb by mail and you pay online after viewing your scores.

The only way to verify that these new scores have arrived at your target schools, however, is to call the adcoms in early Jan. Assume 3-5 days for mailing from NJ, and you should consider calling the week of Jan 10. (Moreover, the only way to verify that the old scores have reached them is by calling -- things get misfiled easily when thousands of envelopes arrive everyday.)

If however, your app deadline is prior to Dec 1 or if you applied ED-II, then you might wish to rush the scores to those schools where it might make a difference in your portfolio review. In my way of thinking, you want to get as much good news in your file as soon as possible.

Are you sure that that Dec 30 deadline refers to when the colleges will RECEIVE it? i was under the impression that the Dec 30 deadline was when I would get it.. i was planning on rushing all my scores on the 17th of Dec when i find out the new scores.... b/c on the CB website, it says it can take anywhere from 3 to 5 weeks for the colleges to receive the score reports (i'm not talkin about rush reporting here)... rather than be risky, shouldn't I just play it safe, and rush the score report to all my schools?! I mean, assuming my parents are willing to pay the ridiculous amount? lol

OK, here's what I'M confused about. I just started going to this board, and I haven't been able to intuit the meaning of "bump". As far as I can tell, it means you agree completely with the previous poster and you second their need for information? But I know that's probably wrong. In any case, what does "bump" mean? And what's the entymology of "bump"? Heh.

On topic, I think that you should send your scores free and hope you get better ones in December. Becuase most colleges swear that they only take your best ones--and ALL your SAT scores are on each score report. So even if you get two 200's, the score report will say "750, 650" along with "200, 200" and the colleges will only look at the 750/650. And you won't be out any money.

I'm taking the December SAT I as well, and not sure when to send the scores (most of the schools I'm applying to have Dec. 31 deadlines). So is it send now, or if I do better on the December SAT, then send it again?
