For the new SAT some colleges require that you send all your SAT scores. For example: http://blog.prepscholar.com/colleges-requiring-all-sat-scores-complete-list
My high school requires that I take an SAT to graduate even if I have taken the ACT already. Does this mean that even if I don’t want to send any SAT scores (only want to send my ACT), when applying to the colleges aforementioned I must send the SAT score the school made me take?
First, the link you provided does not work. However, I am guessing it is one from prep scholar whose list of colleges that require all scores is unreliable in that most of the colleges it lists do not have any requirement that you submit all SAT scores. For more accurate information go here http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/sat-act-tests-test-preparation/1912440-must-you-submit-all-sat-act-or-sat-subject-test-scores-p1.html Second, for the colleges that actually require you to send both all SATs and all ACTs (rather than just one or the other), which appears to be all of three colleges in the nation – Stanford, Georgetown and Barnard – the answer is yes, you must send both the ACT and SAT tests, including any required state tests.
Can you tell the HS that you do not want to take the SAT?
State mandated testing is used for the state’s schools to provide the data necessary to prove compliance with no child left behind laws. Whether the school will allow you to opt out depends on rules applicable in your state and thus you can request an opt out but it may not be granted.
Thanks @drusba for your help! On a side note however is there any sort of benefit towards taking both the ACT and SAT?
Not a benefit per se but an option – if you take one and do not score as well as you would like, you might want to consider taking the other.
