Sending official transcripts???

Am I required to personally mail out my official high school transcript to my respective colleges, or is this part already covered by my guidance counselor? I just wanted to make sure because a lot of my friends are mailing them out and I couldn't understand why they would be doing that.

Each high school has different procedures. At my daughters’ school, if it is going to a state public school, you just have to request the guidance office to send it electronically. To any other school, you make a request, pay $2, and pick up the sealed transcript a few days later, and you then mail it in.

You need to check with your HS to find out what the procedure is. Most schools have the GCs upload transcripts as part of the school report, but some do require the student to take a separate step requesting the transcripts to be sent to their colleges. If you haven’t already done this, you need to get on it right away because most deadlines have passed.

As stated each school is different. At our high school I turn in a transcript request and it will be processed “within two weeks” though it has always been quicker. Plus, colleges can take up to weeks before they process and log the transcripts. If your school can send them electronically you are lucky. As stated you should do this as soon as possible. I have found not to assume things have been done, constantly keep checking. My gc missed a recommendation deadline after I requested it from them 4 times and I was promised 4 times it would be done that day. Luckily the deadline was on a weekend and my email on sat reminded them to get it done and it was not considered late as long as it was received before Monday. Good luck.
