Sending Portfolios Much Later than App

I have decided to send a portfolio of web sites I've designed/worked on and a short story I've written to colleges, but I am worried it might be too late.

Obviously, the colleges that have had deadlines past it's too late (and now I'm kicking myself...I thought it was a waste of time because I thought no one would look at it if it wasn't required). But, for example, I sent my RD application to Washington University in St. Louis in October, but the deadline for the app isn't until 1/15. Can I send in a portfolio now and will it get considered?

Also, I am unsure of how to send a portfolio to schools. Should I make screen captures + descriptions of the web sites, print them out, and just mail them to the Admissions Office? Or should I email a link to my web sites? Should I make a portofolio site?

Also, is it silly to include the short story? I really enjoy writing and I think the story is good and could help.

Thanks!

:( I'm in pretty much the exact same fix as you.

Can anyone answer this question?

There is no "due date" for supplements, although it's a good idea to send them close to the regular application deadline. If they accept it, then good, otherwise, it doesn't matter much. I also put together a portfolio of some sites I designed. I created a simple portfolio of screenshots of put a title next to each one. I printed four pages out plus a cover and a statement sheet, and then bound everything together. I figure that it's a lot easier for them to evaluate the work if it's physical; you don't know that they'll go out of their way and check out your site(s) on the web, but it's always a possibility.
