1.)I have taken the SAT twice and the ACT once. Today, I signed up for each test again. I was told that each test allows you to send your scores to 4 schools, right? Since I took the ACT back in June, are those 4 free reports gone?? Since I'm taking the ACT again, will I have 8 free reports or have I lost my 4 from the first test? I checked the SAT and it says I have 8 free reports so I'm good for that.

2.) I'm applying to mainly CSU schools but might try some UC. My counselor told us that there is a code(3594) that you enter on the SAT. That code will send your score report to every CSU school. Is there a code like this for UC schools? How about a code that would do this for the ACT, or would I have to enter each school individually?

3.) Do the colleges get all of your scores or just your best?

For UCs, you send scores to only one of the UCs to which you apply (you can choose whichever one you want) and others will get them from the one. For CSUs you send SAT scores to CSUMentor which has its own code and all CSUs will have it. For ACT you send ACT to any one of the CSUs. After score comes out and that CSU gets it, you then go into your CSU application file on-line and have that score transferred to any other CSUs to which you applied.

You do not have 8 free sends with SAT. You get 4 with each test. You must name the schools in your test application before scores come out to get your free sends. Once score comes out the free sends are gone for that test. However, SAT always sends all scores it has for you when you order any sent unless you choose to withhold a score. Thus when you take the next test, that test score and your prior test score will be sent to any of the four colleges you name in the application for the test that is coming up.

ACT also has four free sends a test and like SAT you must name the colleges in your application for a test before the test score comes out to exercise the free sends. If you did not do that for the prior test, you lost those four free sends. You can name four colleges for your next test but ACT unlike SAT sends only test ordered when it sends a test. Thus, the only thing that will be sent is that new test score. To send a score you already have you must go on-line and order it sent for a fee that is charged for each test per college.

Ok so basically the 4 free sends for the SAT won’t even get used right? Since 1 will be used for all CSUs and another will be used for 1 UC which will be retrievable by any other UC right?

As for ACT, I can send it to 1 CSU and the score will be able to get transferred to any other CSU. I will, however, have to send each UC an individual score report.

I’m taking the SAT again, so I will be able to send all 3 SAT scores through the 4 “free” sends they give me(Won’t even need 4 right? Since 2 sends it to all CSU and UC).

I’m taking the ACT again, so I will be given 4 “free” send. The sends will not, however, include the 1st ACT I took, just the new one.

Thank you very, very much for your help. Our school had 8 counselors but due to budget cuts we’re down to 4. It’s very difficult to get in touch with one.

Incorrect as to UCs on the ACT and perhaps I was unclear on that. Its SAT and ACT rules are the same. You send scores to only one of the UCs to which you apply and rest will get them from the one. Nevertheless if you take the ACT twice, you must separately send both scores. With SAT, if you order any given test sent, it will upon release of that test score send that score and all prior scores it has for you to the designated college.
