Sending SAT II / SAT Scores to Colleges

So I was wondering whether I should send my SAT II scores to colleges if they recommend it (but don't require it). 700 Chinese, 700 Bio E, 690 Math IIc. My SAT, however, wasn't very good either, 1960 (590 CR, 710 M, 670 W, 10 Essay). On the other hand my ACT was much better (32 Composite).

Also how much will it hurt my chances for the schools that do require it (Cornell, Carnegie Mellon, NYU; my stats are http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=263890)

Also, my brother was wondering the same thing (he got a 1980 SAT, 34 ACT, 790 Chinese, 670 Bio M, 700 Math IIc). And he's applying to Northwestern, Cornell, WashU, UPenn so he was wondering how much his SAT II / SAT scores would hurt him there (and if he should sent it to schools that don't neccesarily require it). His stats are identical to mine except he has a 3.8 UW and 34 ACT and National Merit Semifinalist

Thanks in advance

First, I would look at each school to determine if they take the ACT as a replacement for the subject tests or if you need them in addition to the ACT. A couple schools take the ACT alone (not necessarily those you're applying to however), so for those schools I'd not send the SAT (it will save you some money)

Next, you should know that those schools "recommending" subjects tests really, really want you to take them. You should consider them required and not just recommended, particularly for the most competitive schools on your list. So, for any school that wants the subject tests in addition to the ACT, send them the SAT report.

If I understand you correctly, you're worried it would be detrimental for schools to see your SATI scores even though you're sending a better ACT score. If that is the case, you shouldn't worry because they will take the ACT score and subject tests and disregard SATI.

By the way, you and your brother both have excellent ACT and subject test scores - good luck!

I was wondering the same thing. My SAT score (1980) wasn't that great, but I got a 750 on Chem and 760 on Math II on the subject tests, and my ACT was a 31. I'm planning on sending both to colleges even though most of them the ACT covers both the SAT and subject test requirement.

BUMP, I need to know :/

All your subject scores are 690 or higher? Send them! Can't hurt! If they don't want to use them they'll just ignore them.

sorry but for ivy schools, if your chinese and you're taking the chinese sat's its already a negative for you since it shows you dont challenge yourself to take other subject tests. i read it in the princeton site somewhere.

BUMP, so for the schools I'm applying to that recommend SAT II's, should I send them...since my SAT score is lower then my ACT and my SAT II's aren't that amazing considering some of the colleges I'm applying to

WashU
Emory
BC
USC
UT
Lehigh
NYU

BUMP again, I'm really curious what people have to say about what I should considering how selective some of the colleges I'm applying to are :/

Anyone? Gotta send SAT scores soon if I'm going to lol :/

Argh, comon respond :*(

Man I'm hated :/

aww sniffle

Send the ACT and the SATIIs to the colleges that recommend it, and bury those SAT scores if you're applying to elite colleges (1960 is good at most schools, but not the elite ones).

Umm, problem is...when you send you SAT II's, your SAT's get sent with them, so I can't just only send my SAT II's, because if I do, the colleges will see my SAT I score, which might hurt me. Which is why I'm asking if I should send SAT scores at all to schools that "recommend" SAT II's...

If they recommend them, I say send them.

yes, send them.
