My guidance counselor/my parents are pressuring me into sending my SAT score (1580) to colleges that I will be applying to next year. They think that this will show interest and be a positive thing worth paying for, but I'm not convinced. What are the benefits and consequences of sending my scores this early?

I don't think there is a point. If you sent it as one of the free reports when you take a test, that's cool, but otherwise, why?

i agree with lindsaylu...i sent mine when i took them on january 22, but only because it was free to do so, and my parents are already looking for ways to save some money...

No real reason to pay for the scores to be sent. You're going to have to take the new SAT anyway.

if u can afford to send the scores, i dont see how it could hurt....it IS true that you might get some schools lookin' at you early....it all depends upon your financial situation i guess

macattak: you don't necessarily have to take the new SATs. Many top-tier schools, including MIT, will accept either.

I was under the impression that students entering college in '06 needed to take the new SAT. My apologies if that's not correct.

In general, '06 grads will most likely have to take the new SAT because colleges will want to look at a writing portion, and unless you had time to take the SAT II: Writing, chances are you'll have to take one anyway.

Yeah that's true. On the other hand, many people like me took the sat 2 writing and depending on how I do on the jan 22 test, I will either take new one or not. Most likely, I'll take new one either way but if the scores from the old were better I'll use that.
