Hey guys, I have an urgent question. I am applying for the priority 12/1 deadline and I need to send in my SAT scores (I took the Nov SATs). I went to collegeboard and it says that if I send the scores now it will take 1-2 weeks. Is this OK and will it not cause me any harm? Also there is another option called Rush Reports which sends it to the college in 1-2 business days. However this option costs $27, and I would not like to spend the money if I don't have to. Which option should I do? Will the regular option get to UMD in time?

My suggestion determine how bad u want it. If the answer is bad pay the 27 afterall, it is only 18 more

My daughter took the SAT in Oct. UMD received her scores the day after she could see them on the web. Her other school had them within a week after that. This is without rush scoring. Did you ask to have the scores sent when you registered for the test?

You might want to check with admissions to see if they accept rush scores. (Many schools don't, especially if they usually receive scores electronically.) They're your most reliable source of information.

MD_Mom- No, I didn't have my scores sent when I registered. I thought about it, and I went with regular scoring in the hopes that if the scores don't arrive before the deadline that md will acknowledge that I took the Nov SAT and personally, I think they'll be a little flexible with SAT scores since they won't look at everyones app 12/1. Plus I didn't know if they would accept Rush scoring (ripoff)

es222,
Wrong ... deadlines are deadlines! No insult, but don't start your collegiate career with the thought they really don't mean what they are saying. Unless you can explain why you couldn't comply I doubt they will give you a pass. We went through the process, the turn around from common apps to acknowledgement via email and snail occurred within 2-3 days from UMD. Application was sumitted on Sat., email Mon a.m., snail Wed.

Next, SAT allows you at least 3 or more free scores to be sent directly. We had the scores sent directly to UMD (same as MD_Mom). It never cost us a penny. When you sign up you have the ability to tell them where to send your scores, tyhpically hs and top choices.
Rush scoring is not a rip-off. It is there for students in your predicament, be thankful that there is a safety net for you. Again if you surpassed the quota to send directly the cost is $9, to rush is $27.

Finally, I thought that historically right now is ED, you might be going crazy for no reason.

Great points bullet. My D also applied to UMD in time for the 12/1 deadline (ordered her scores with testing and paid the $9 additional for more than 4 colleges). Like you, we found UMD's processing/notification time to be impressive.

She applied by the 12/1 deadline, however, not for ED, but because 12/1 is the college's priority application deadline to be eligible for some scholarships -- even if you intend to apply Regular Decision. So es222 does have reason for concern.

es222, unless you're truly ambivalent about your application to UMD because it's not one of your top choices -- why take the risk? Pay the rush fee to ensure your application is complete and on time!

I'm not sure what you mean es222. We used regular scoring (four reports are FREE at registration), not rush scoring and the October report arrived at UMD before paper mailing began. I assume this is because UMD uses electronic reporting. Here's an explanations of the various options universities have for receiving scores.

As I understand it rush score is for paper scores. Here are the score mailing dates.
SAT Scores: View and Send Your SAT Scores If UMD is set up to receive electronic scores they might receive you scores sooner from a regular request than from a rushed paper mailing. I don't know that for sure but the admissions office would.

Seems to me your best bet is to call/email UMD and ask what would work best for them.
