Sending SAT scores

Most schools say that you have to have your SAT testing completed by January. I finished mine in October but I just got around to sending the scores in because I didn't know where I was applying in October. The collegeboard site says the scores take 3-5 weeks to deliver, so is this a problem? Do the scores from old test dates have to be at the college by their application deadline? Should I rush the scores or am I fine?

I know this may be a silly question but I have a very large school with a backed up guidance office and I can never find anything out.

please, anyone? just tell me what I should do, I am very concerned.

You are fine. All the applications say that everything must be in by the deadline, but the app itself and the application fee are the two things that really matter. Once they receive anything, they start a file for you, and anything that comes in the mail goes into the file. At the beginning of the year, they are opening mail and filing. Then they read essays for several weeks. Then they start making decisions. You have plenty of time for the SAT scores to get there. They want everything to come in time, but they won't penalize you for things that you have no control over such as when teacher/GC recs or transcripts are sent to them.

A lot of schools have online sites where you can check the status of your app and see if anything is missing. Once they get you into the system, they will send you a userid and password. There are opportunities to supply anything that is missing, but keep an eye on things.

Any SAT score report that is sent is cumulative. It will contain any SAT and SAT II scores from the past. Sending the report "rush" can actually be slower. Scores are normally sent to colleges electronically while "rush" scores are mailed. Thus they have to arrive in the college's mailroom, be opened, and then filed. It may be faster to wait for the regularly scheduled electronic transfer with everybody else.
