Sending SAT Scores

This is probably a stupid question but it says I have four free score reports after I signed up for the October SAT:
"Don't forget to use your registration score report credits:
You have until Oct 14, 2013 to take advantage of your four free score report credits."

The thing is, once I select the colleges I would like to send, they will automatically send it to them after my results are known, even if I am not happy with the score?
(Same goes for ACT)

So if I don't select colleges to send to be October 14, I have to pay to send any score?

Also, is it okay to send it after my scores are available even though I haven't submitted the college app/common app yet? Is that confusing? Should I send SAT scores AFTER submitting the app?

Thank you guys so much.

You are right. If you put which schools you want on your SAT during your next sitting, that score will be sent to the colleges. The same is true for the ACT. So if you do not ask SAT to send them at your next sitting, then yes, you have to pay for the other scores from other test dates to be sent.

As for your other question, it does not matter whether the schools receive your application or your test scores first. The same is true for your teacher recommendations. As long as everything gets in by the deadline, it does not matter which order the college receives it in.

Good Luck with the application process; I know that it is very stressful!
