So, tonight is the last night for me to get four SAT reports for free. I am planning on retaking the SAT's in December. If I send the SAT's now, will colleges receive updates of my new December scores, or will I have to resubmit them? Am I better off submitting my scores now, or should I wait until December? If a school doesn't have rolling admissions, and they make a decision on me, will I be eligible for more scholarship money if my December SAT's improve? Or since I would have already submitted my October SAT's, would the decision be made off of these alone?

I assume you are not applying early action or early decision because for those Dec scores are too late and you should send Oct scores if doing so.

Colleges designated for Oct test scores will receive that score plus any prior scores but they will not receive Dec scores; you have to do new sends for that one.

As to sending scores now or waiting until Dec.: If the college has rolling admissions (meaning makes decisons as applications are submitted), then if you submit Oct scores and your application is otherwise complete, the decision will be made before those Dec scores ever come out. However, it is strongly advised to apply to a rolling admissions school earlier rather than later because earlier applicants have somewhat of an advantage over later applicants. If you are applying to the California State Colleges (not UCs), you need to complete all testing by Nov because Dec scores are too late for regular admission. If you are otherwise applying regular admission to colleges that do not send out decisons until after Jan, then it makes no difference whether you send scores now or wait to send with Dec test for purposes of admission.

Merit awards rules can vary among colleges. Some have particular scholarships for which all qualifying materials including scores must be in by an early designated date (like in Oct or Nov). The Dec scores are irrelevant to those. However, many colleges make merit award determinations in the spring at the same time as or after deciding admission and will use for determination of those awards the highest test score in your file, including those later Dec scores. Even a number of rolling admissions schools do not make merit award determinations until spring and you can keep sending scores for that purpose even after being admitted.

Note, the only way a school is actually going to make a determination concerning your admission based on Oct scores and before it receives those DEC scores is if you are applying early decision or early action (or as called by some public colleges applying by a priority date for an earlier decision), or you are applying to a rolling admissions school (which includes any school that starts rolling out those decisions any time before Jan).

Can I use the paid “Additional Score Reporting” after the score reporting deadline?
