Sending SAT vs. ACT....or both?

I just sent my D's SAT scores to about 15 northeastern colleges. She had 1250 math/verbal which pretty much runs parallel with her 28 ACT score. Is there any point in sending the ACT scores as well, or would sending the ACT scores just be redundant?

It would be redundant unless she scored particularly high in one of the components of the ACT.

I guess the same would apply to retakes. She was going to take both the SAT and ACT again but her scores are so similiar on both I guess she'll just take the SAT since that is what most northeastern institutions seem to get sent ...vs. the ACT.

She should retake whichever test that she feels more comfortable with or more confident of boosting a score. All colleges now accept the ACT. There may be an advantage with ACT over SAT -- for some reason the score ranges of enrolled students at most colleges seem to include lower ACTs than the SAT equivalents. It's possible that is just a statistical anomaly -- for example, it might be the result of superscoring (reporting the highest individual SAT scores from separate sittings) -- but if you study score ranges you will see that a 28 ACT is "in range" for more schools than the 1250 SAT.

Just an idea. Stay with the SAT until she retakes the ACT (don't send the ACT yet, don't retake SAT yet. ). If the new ACT score is higher, send the new one. They'll never see the old one and you won't need to retake the SAT. Score choice is your friend.

Hmmm. Very shrewd. Thank you Mr. Curmudgeon.
