My son took each once, without writing and the ACT again with writing. He got a 1400 on the SAT (710 writing, 690 Math), 35 on the ACT. One subject test - Amer history, 680. Had plans to retake and do the World history but was really sick that weekend; did the ACT the following, scored lower…
We’ve sent the 35 ACT score, but I’m wondering if it’s worth it to send his SAT and subject test score. For half his schools the SAT is in range, half it’s a little low.
Would appreciate any advice for us first-timers.
Only send his ACT. That score is much better than his SAT. You can google equivalency charts and see the difference.
As for the subject tests, I am not sure if 680 on that am. history is a good score, maybe someone else can chime in?
Don’t send his SAT, it’ll make him look worse even if the schools are in range. If you send only the ACT, it makes him look outstanding to those schools (more chances of merit aid). Don’t send the subject test, it’s below average. A ‘good’ score on the US History test is a 750+, the lowest you can get is a 500.
I agree, send the ACT only.
@izrk02 your comment about the minimum score on the subject tests is factually incorrect. From the CB website
It varies by test, but about 10% get below a 500.
I would save the money and don’t send the subject test score. If you were already sending SAT scores, it would be OK to include. No reason to give the CB more money.
@Eeyore123 I was going off of the score distribution chart, which doesn’t record anything below a 500.
Awesome, thanks for your help. That makes me feel much better.
