Sending Scores Confusion

Hi CollegeConfidential! Thanks for helping me out so far! Another question:

I was originally signed up for the May 4th SAT Reasoning Test and the June 1st SAT Subject Tests in Math IIC and Chemistry. A couple days before the May 4th test I chose four colleges to receive my score. Apparently, they also are now signed up to receive copies of the June 1st Subject tests scores as well.

I did really well at the SAT and will be happy to send those scores! However, I decided to delay taking Math II until October and take Literature instead.

Questions:
1.) Why are the June and May reports all connected? If I chose to send my May 4th score now without including the subject tests, would I get four more reports to send June 1 subject tests to colleges?

2.) Right now, it says that the colleges will receive a Math IIC score report. I know I can change the actual test I'm taking on the day of the test. Will it automatically change on the website(the colleges will know to expect a Literature score instead of Math II score)?

3.) Is there any way to change the score recipients for Subject Tests now? I was on the website and couldn't figure out how...is it too late to change it since the deadline has already passed to change the May score recipients and the June scores are somehow connected with that somehow?

That was confusing just typing it all out. Thanks in advance for your help!

Someone please help me! This is time-sensitive so I’d really appreciate it!

I don’t think your May registration free score would include any future scores (e.g. June subject test). It will only includes the current and previous scores. I think you are probably choosing recipients for June test which includes the May test. You may change the free report recipient up to 10 days after the test (the Monday in a week).

They only way your June test could list schools to automatically get scores upon release is for you to have listed them in your June test application. By listing schools as your free sends in that application, that means those schools will be sent whatever test scores you get on the the June tests plus any prior scores unless you exercise score choice and prevent a prior score from being sent. The fact that you now list math and will instead take lit means the file currently shows math will be taken but what will actually be sent is lit if you make the change at the test center (you do not have to change anything for that to happen).

College Board’s default position is always to send all scores it has for you, including all past scores, whenever you order any score sent unless you exercise score choice and prevent a past score from being sent by removing it in the order. Moreover, your May test application file will not currently show the subject tests if you go into that test application. If you are going online to order scores sent now and what pops up for the order is a listing of your June tests and your May test, you are in your June application file not your May application file. Colleges listed in that June app file will get your June scores and your May score after your June scores are released unless you prevent the May score from being sent with that order. You can change the colleges in that June file up until 9 days after you take the June tests. If you cannot figure out how to do that call CB.

If you want to send only your May score right now, you need to get into your May test application file which will show only your May score. If you cannot find that, call CB and ask how to find it.

What I do not know is what you actually did before when you listed colleges. You say you listed four colleges for your May test shortly before you took it. If when you made that order the only test shown that could be sent was the May test, then you in fact were in your May application file and did what you think you did and four colleges were sent your May score upon release. If, when you made that order, both the May test and the June tests were listed as possible sends, then you have thus far sent nothing to colleges and forfeited your free sends for your May test because you were actually in your June test application when you did that listing and not your May test application.

Thank you! I understand now, sort of. Sorry it’s so confusing :P.

drusba—thank you for that detailed explanation. I need to file that somewhere to reference when my son and I are sitting here next fall attempting to suppress some scores and release others. Is the process this confusing if one does not take advantage of the free reports?

Drusba, would I be able to change the score recipients now?

If you wait to order scores sent after scores are released, the process is actually easy. You go into your application and order scores sent for an additional fee per college and you will have the choice to send all scores you have including past scores (default position) or delete any particular test you don’t want to send to a college (note that many colleges require you to send all scores).

Confusion is often created in the OPs situation when you have two applications for two different test dates and the second test date has not yet occurred or you have not yet received a score for it. When you go on-line to CB and just follow the prompts to sending scores, what CB will show you is your latest test application and not your earlier one unless you go specifically looking for the earlier application file which may require instructions from CB to find. Unfortunately, CB does not explain that when you are going through the ordering stage. The result is that some might, for example, believe they are ordering their Oct test sent when they place the order at the end of Oct, when in fact they are ordering their Nov test sent (which would include sending the Oct test) and nothing gets sent until after the Nov scores come out (the same can happen whenever there are two tests in connecting months and you have applied for both but have not gotten your scores on the second one). If you have taken multiple tests and already have all your scores, and then decide to send them for a fee, there is no issue because you will be shown the last test application with exisiting scores, which will also include all prior tests with their scores, for sending and you can either send them all or designate some tests for not sending.
