Okay so I've been sending my SAT scores to Columbia, Brown, UCLA, and UCBerkeley every time I took them, which has been twice during my junior year and once my senior year, the Ocbober test.

I only sent them because they were free to send, so I thought what the heck, why not?

But now I realize that I'd much rather not send my SAT scores, because my ACT scores are MUCH better and I'd rather send those in than have my SAT scores bring my chances of admission down.

When colleges receive these scores long before I even apply, do they still keep it in their records? Because I'm thinking about not putting these scores onto my application and just putting my ACT scores.

Also, if I only send in my ACT scores could I send in my SAT Subject Test scores without having to send in my SAT I scores?

Thanks guys.

My guess is that, until you either start an app online or send one in, schools put your info into an “interested” database or just toss it. That is only a guess, but since kids are taking SAT’s for all kinds of reasons beside applying for schools and many are simply filling in the free report spots, they’d have a large portion of scores without applicants if they hung on to them as active admissions files.

Yes, you can send only Subject test scores when sending SAT’s.

The cynic in me believes that the schools really do use your highest scores only, if only because it helps their own numbers. So, go ahead and send your ACT’s, even if they hung on to your SAT’s, the superior ACT scores will prevail.

What I’d like to know is if the SAT report will show that you only sent some of your scores.

Most likely, they have your SAT scores in their system and those scores will automatically be in your file when you apply. There is no use in trying to keep those scores away now so don’t worry about it. You also need to understand that some schools require that they have all your scores and from the list, Columbia requires all score and Brown does not, I don’t know the policy of the other UC schools but you need to find out and submit appropriately.

Also most schools take ACT scores in place of both SAT I and SAT II subject tests, so you do not need to send in the subject tests if you don’t want to. You can use College Board Score Choice to send in just your SAT subject tests but again, you should first know the school policy and whether they require all scores.
