Sending scores to colleges?

D is junior, strong grades, ec & probably NMSF. College board is encouraging her to sent her SAT scores to colleges to show she is interested. Hopefully she will do well on her first SAT but doesn't make sense to me to send unknown scores to her reach schools just to show interest.

Additional question- do colleges know which other schools you are sending scores to?

From the College Board website:

Frankly, sending scores to schools early won’t help her application or chances of getting in. Students should send scores only after they’re done with testing (typically around November, December, or for some students even January, of their senior year) for obvious reasons. The only real benefits of following the course of sending score reports early is (1) to encourage oneself to do college research and get everything over with, and (2) to save money since the early score reports are free while the normal score reports require a fee. And you should send your scores before you know what they are only if you are absolutely sure you scored satisfactorily or you are a senior and the deadline is approaching and you have no time to waste. In this case the scores won’t be sent until the scores come out anyway, but they will by default be sent as soon as they do.

So don’t worry about when to send score reports. Just have your daughter do it when she is ready. They won’t review her material and application until all of it has been sent anyway.
