Sending Test Scores

My son has taken both the ACT and SAT. All of the schools he is applying to will take either one (and none require SAT subject tests, so that is not a factor.)

If he reports both test scores on the Common App, does he have to have both sent to each college? Or can he just send the better one (ACT), since the schools only asked for one?

If he only puts down the ACT score on the Common App, will it look “suspicious” that he didn’t put down an SAT score, since we live in a state where the SAT is most likely more common than the ACT?

He can just put down his ACT, and it won't look suspicious - we're from an "SAT state" and I know many who did just that. He only needs to send the official report for the test he's submitting. He does not have to list his SAT scores if he doesn't want to.

It depends on whom you ask. I took both tests, did well (2170/33), and am sending both sets of scores. If you're not going to officially send the scores, don't mention them anywhere else on the app. The SAT and ACT are different enough that the argument can be made in favor of either test for a specific student. Perhaps your son is very strong in science, or something like that. Either way, you shouldn't worry about it.
