I was wondering when they start deliberating over the waitlist? I am sending additional info tomorrow and am scared they will deliberate before it gets there...eh.

They decide on their first round of cuts by May 1st. Then they trim it down periodically after that.

do they let you know if you're cut?

There are various "rounds" by which the WL is reduced, based on the number of vacancies to be filled and other factors. If and when an applicant is no longer being retained on the WL, he or she will receive written notice to that effect.

Anyone heard how many decided to stay on waiting list or when they might start pulling from the waiting list?

My friend who works for UMRP/HFAI stated that admissions officers would start deciding on waitlist candidates tomorrow. The last day for accepted students to submit their intent to enroll form is today by 5PM.

Best of luck!

oh, i didnt know accepted students had until may 3

I sent in my 3rd update letter to them (once during decision time for EA, once during decision time for RD and now decision time for WL) and had a new teacher write an awesome rec.

I talked, or rather e-mailed with, my admissions officer today and she still claimed they didn't know if they were taking anyone off the WL... we'll see what happens...

Remember, they're targeting for a class of 1684 this year and they accepted enough students (historically) for a class of ~1640. If the yield remains the same historically, people will certainly get off the WL.

So I know that distinguishing oneself in some way is necessary to clear the waitlist, and I'm sort of wondering what kind of help I might get from winning this Presidential Scholar award. I hope it helps, but do you all think it makes my chances only slightly less remote than before, or might it improve them more than that? Just looking for opinions, I suppose...

yeah im on the waitlist.
and these are wat i sent in.

a semi-humorous letter clearly indicating what i've done in 2nd semester of senior year and why i want to attend harvard.

a rec letter from a JPL engineer.

a rec letter from a Parsons engineer.

a rec letter from Salvation Army Western Territory Music Secretary

a rec letter from my AP Chemistry teacher, whose husband is an alumnus.

i mean, i havent done much in second semester that sticks out.
i took my ap courses, got all A's... and pretty much it. nothing major.
thanks to some of the people on this board, telling me that maybe i should talk about how i want to join the Harvard Band. that's why i got the letter from the Salvation Army music director.

i wonder what you guys sent in. :)

i sent nothing

tmasta--I haven't heard of the Presidential Scholars till recently but from what I've heard (some absolutely brilliant friends of mine didn't make it), it seems like quite the honor, so definitely let Harvard know and congrats!! :)

I've sent nothing. What happens happens, you know? If I don't hear from them, I'll probably be better of in New Haven anyway ;) lol

did anyone get off the waitlist yet?
