Sending transcripts to college

Hey guys and girls!
I'm a senior this year and I've been looking into applying to a bunch of different schools (mostly on the east coast). My assumption is that I have to send them my high school transcripts, which is done through an online program called parchment. My question is when should I be sending my transcript to all of my colleges and will they notify me once they receive them? Also, does it show up on the common app once they receive them or something?

Thanks!

Your high school will send out your transcripts directly.
Some colleges have programs where you can see when documents arrive, others will contact you if your file is missing anything.

@happy1 On parchment the student requests the transcript from his/her high school and orders parchment to send it out to his/her respective colleges.

My school also uses parchment to send transcripts. For IU, one of my safeties, I sent in my application (non-common app) first then sent out my transcript. When you log onto your account for a specific school and check your application status, it should show you whether or not the school has received your transcript.

@happy1 No, schools use Parchment does not submit transcript directly. Students is responsible in doing that.
On Parchment, you should first acquire your latest transcript. It may take a few days depending on how responsive your high school is. Once it is on your file, you may request submission of transcript to schools. You just need to add school to the list and you will get a reference number. You may want to keep a record of that. At any time, you may track the status of the submission. They will also send you an email confirmation. When you look up the order history, it will only show the reference number and status though. Submitting transcript to most schools are free, but some will require a charge (those not receiving it electronically). You should submit the transcript at least a couple weeks before the deadline for application or at the time you send the application (whichever is earlier). The same for test scores.

Thanks! Are you supposed to send your transcript for the first three years or should I wait until I can update it with the first trimester of senior year?

If you are applying early then it will have the first three years. If you apply in January then it will have more info. Your school may also have to send an update with midterm grades.

You submit whichever that is current at the time of application. Also, submission to many schools are free (if electronic). You may request updated transcript later on when it is available.

I hate the uncertainty of not having it in the Common App
