Sending Updates

On Dec. 28 I applied to HYPS. Since then, I have won several awards and I want to update colleges. What is the process to do this? When does it become too late to update colleges?

In case you're interested, the awards I won were:
-AAN Neuroscience Research Prize (will present my research at the AAN Conference)
-Presidential Scholars nominee

In addition, I have applied/am doing the following
-$20K government scholarship (I find out Feb. 1)
-Coca Cola Scholars (Feb. 7)
-Regional Science Olympiad (Feb. 19)
-Regional JSHS (Feb. 22)
-US Physics Olympiad (Feb. 23)

I don't think my chances of winning any of the above are very good ... but of those I have yet to find out about, are any worth waiting for before I update colleges?

Your help is very much needed and appreciated. Thanks.

Bump …

I think it can’t hurt to update them but I would do it by the end of February. I would just do it by snail mail, but check with your guidance counselor to see if s/he thinks otherwise. Even if they tell you not to bother, I would still do it.

another note----check their websites too. Johns Hopkins, for example, does mention that “updates and corrections” can be sent by regular mail, not e-mail, and they suggest doing it by February 1.

Do you think the awards I have yet to find out about are worth waiting for before I send out updates? Or will they not have that big of an impact?

bumping again …

-AAN Neuroscience Research Prize (will present my research at the AAN Conference)

This one I would certainly add.

How about the other awards? Also, out of curiosity, do you know big of a deal the AAN award is? Like, is it as good as Intel finals?

The others seem to be mostly participation indications; I’m not sure whether they would add to your application, though adding them would certainly not hurt too.

No, I don’t know how prestigious an AAN award is under adcoms’ eyes. Still, your prize does indicate a distinction as you were invited to present your research at a greater conference.
