I realized I put this in the wrong forum so I'm going to repost this to see if I can getter better answers.

I'm taking AP Calc, AP Gov't, AP Econ, AP Physics, and AP English Lit. Plus French 4 Honors.
By the time the examination days arrive, I would have already sent my application and gotten a response from all the colleges I applied to plus getting ready to choose the college that I have been accepted into.

I know AP exams with a 4-5 can help you financially since you get to skip it (heck even with 3s but only in some colleges and none of the colleges I'm applying to I think) but for classes that are not mandatory in college (like gov't and econ and perhaps English Lit maybe???), do you think I should take those AP exams?

Well I honestly don’t see why you shouldn’t. I mean, you don’t have to study hard or anything, but you might as well take it to see how you do.

If it costs you $79 and you’re quite sure you’re going to fail, what’s the point? If it costs $5/test for you… I’d say go for it. You only have $5 and 2-4 hours to lose.

AP exams can help you financially (get some units out of the way). Some colleges might accept 3’s, some don’t, and at this point, you don’t know which college you’re going to (and you might not know when the time comes to register for to take your AP exams).

It’s sort of a precaution to take all of them if you think you can pass all of them. However, like you said, you’ll know what colleges you’ll be accepted into by the time the exams roll by in May. Knowing this, you might be discouraged from studying and trying your hardest on the tests because the college you SIR’ed to doesn’t give credit for so-and-so AP test.

Plus, there might be senior stuff going on at that time (my school ended mid-May, so I had all of these “Award Nights” and “Scholarship Recognition” and school-thrown parties/grad practices happening in the evening, along with a research paper my Lit teacher had us do).

I personally think it’s worth it. I won’t be left wondering, “Would I have passed if I took it?” and I passed all of my AP tests, so, college credit for me.

Ultimately, it’s your choice.

Oh whoops, I forgot it costs you. Forget my previous post - the school pays for our tests here.

Check the colleges’ gen ed requirements!
Gov’t/Econ may go towards social science or American Institutions, Lit goes towards a writing and humanities requirement. There may also be an award that the school gives / ap wall of fame–some seniors only take the exam to be on their favorite teacher’s wall…

Just make sure you’re getting credit that speeds up graduation / cuts costs… Seniors I know complained after taking 8+ tests to find out that their school does not accept most of it.

Lot of seniors decide to take or skip based on the college credit policy at the specific school they are planning to attend. So if the college you decide to attend gives you credit, you take the test and if not, it is upto you.

100% worth it. You can get credit (if you want). And truth be told, I enjoyed learning the things I did.
