senior course (AP or HONOR?)

I took 3 AP classes in junior year,
and selected 6 AP classes (inclucing eng. AP) for senior year.
Well, I really don't want to take English AP,
but people around me are telling me that I HAVE TO take it
if I "at least" wanna give it a shot to Harvard.
There are other english courses counted as Honors credit, such as
Old English, Shakespeare, Writing Technique, etc.

My question is, would it be okay to take one of the Honors credit english course if i'm applying to Harvard?

Could it be, by any chance, harm my acceptance chance, assuming I have competetive academic record?

Please help me. =(
I HATE my school's Eng. AP teacher.

How many APs do people at your school who get into top schools usually take? It seems almost as though it is a detriment when a high school allows students to take so many APs because then, since you are being compared to your classmates in terms of admissions, if you don't take say, 6 APs as you are considering, it will look as though you aren't taking the hardest courseload. My school only allows students to take three a year, max, and they are reluctant to even let students take that many.

Honestly, I would say don't take it. Five APs is killer as it is. I can only start to imagine how hard that must be. If you aren't going to major in English, or put that as your intended major on your application, then why bother? If you don't like a course, then you are likely to not do well in it, as I've experienced and have gotten burned by.

Best of luck when you apply!

take the AP course. It will make your schedule look more rigorous and teach you how to deal w/ people that you don't like. You can't expect to get out of something everytime you don't like someone. Suck it up, and take the class.

5 APs in one year, on top of 3APs already taken is more than enough. Take the Shakespeare course.

Harvard will give you credit toward Advanced Standing for only 4 year long APs anyway, and only half credit for AP-Language.

And no one really does Advanced Standing at Harvard anyways.

so..
you guys think taking shakespeare or writing tech. wouldn't hurt my admission chance?
that'd be AWESOME, really.

If the rest of your schedule is vigorous, the schools you apply to won't know whether you had a scheduling problem and could not fit in AP English anyway. And six APs at one time is a tremendous load, especially when you are completing applications at the same time.

I'd say that considering the other APs you are taking, you can afford to take another class. Don't torture yourself with a class that you hate.

There is only a slight chance that dropping AP will affect your chances of acceptance. If you really hate the AP teacher, you might want to take the risk.

^ all you guys are crazy. you don't need to take it if you don't want to. it won't affect your chances. one class won't be the reason you won't get in. 5 ap's is more than enough, i wouldn't even take 5 if it were me. but it's not. it's you. so do 5 and sleep a bit more.

is there anywhere that saids that taking AP Lang improve your chance in getting in to Harvard? I really did not know that. My son a senior did not take AP Lang. should we be concerned? however he did take 7AP exam so far and is taking 4 in his senior year
