Senior Courses

Hey everyone! I am really torn on what courses to take this year. Here is what my schedule looks like as of right now:

AP Eng Lit
AP Calc AB
AP Psychology
AP Biology
Honors Spanish V
Honors Art IV
Health/PF

Okay so health and PF are graduation requirements which really sucks. My school doesn’t offer AP Spanish so Spanish V is the only option. And AP Calc AB is the highest level of math offered since the earliest you can take Algebra I is 8th grade.

So the only courses I am really considering changing are AP Biology and art. I want to apply for Wharton and I am really interested in economics/finance/international relations. I really have no interest in biology at all and I will be out a lot for extracurricular events so it will be very difficult for me to keep up in art this year if I am missing a lot of class time. Art really isn’t something I can make up easily if I miss. I took H Biology in 9th grade, H Chemistry and AP Environmental Science in 10th, and AP Physics 1 and AP Chemistry this past year. I want to switch out Biology for AP Statistics and art for AP Human Geography. Do you think not taking a science this year will hurt me?

No. You have 5 credits of science, including bio, chem, and physics. You’ve covered the bases here.

Personally, I think APHUG is a waste of a class, but if it interests you, go for it.

Another added bonus in taking AP Stat instead of AP Bio is that Wharton has a Statistics requirement, so it may help getting a head start in that, and they may like seeing Statistics on your schedule. This is as long as you don’t get burnt out on math with both that and AP Calc.

I was personally a huge fan of AP Human Geo, but you don’t get any credit for the AP Test at Penn which stinks. I would say do whichever one you think you will enjoy more and won’t take away from your other classes (as far as the workload and stress-load goes since you already have a stacked schedule).

Thanks! I always told myself I wouldn’t take APHUG just from what I’ve heard on these forums about it, but there aren’t a whole lot of options at my school. And honestly it does sound interesting to me even if I won’t be able to get any credit in college for it.
