Hi! I’ve been interested in Wellesley since the summer of 2014; it’s my number one school. I’m about to schedule my senior courses and I was wondering if this schedule would be considered rigorous enough:
AP English Lit
AP Calculus AB
AP Environmental Science
Dual Enrollment Government (school doesn’t offer AP or honors, so I’d take this through a local college)
Forensics (speech and debate class)
Personal Finance/Economics (one semester each, graduation requirements, no honors or AP available)
Contemporary Issues (regular level class that would study current affairs. I want to go into international relations)
Including the APs listed above, when I graduate I will have taken 8 APs and 7 honors courses. I’m worried because I won’t take a 4th year of Latin. I really don’t like Latin at all, and the only option left is AP Latin. I want to enjoy my senior year while still keeping it challenging and this is one he most challenging schedules available.
Thanks for reading that much! Any advice would be appreciated!!
I think that is a great load, in my opinion. I’m wondering the same thing and graduate this year with 7 AP classes (but only 6 tests, I couldn’t take my first one for family reasons). I only took three this year instead of 5 because my school doesn’t offer AP French or Gov anymore and I couldn’t drive to go take them somewhere else, and though I told this to Wellesley and my other schools, I’m still worried
@cierramist Thank you! I think we’re both fine. We could have just taken the bare minimum for our senior years, but we chose instead to go with AP classes. Hopefully Wellesley will see that we chose the most challenging courses available. Good luck to you, and maybe one day we’ll run into each other at Wellesley! Keep me posted!
I think 8 AP classes are plenty! I would think more about taking AP Latin because a lot of schools like seeing continuity in classes and I think that’s especially true for foreign languages. It’s not like a make it or break it type of situation though! But that might be something to keep in mind if you think you might be a borderline applicant.
Hi! I was accepted ED to Wellesley’s class of 2020 and I only took 5 AP courses during high school (music theory, psychology, environmental sciences, economics, calc ab). I took two tests last year for music theory and psych, received 4s on both of them, and reported them both.
I took 2 APs in all of high school (and they offer many) and got into Wellesley… So yeah you probably could have “gone for bare minimum” because it’s not the worst thing in the world to give yourself a break…
