Senior Grades?

I'm a junior and I talked to my counselor today about how I need to raise my GPA with senior grades, but she told me that our school doesn't release any grades until they're finalized? As in, no college will ever see our senior year grades before the end of the year, just the fact that we're taking the classes that we are. Apparently our midyear report contains no grades either unless its a semester course and we've finished with the class. Is this normal? I thought college absolutely wanted to see midyear reports, or for early, quarter reports to make sure we're on track.

Well, if your school doesn’t release them, there’s nothing the college or you can do, is there?

I am just wondering if that’s actually what happens. I thought most colleges demanded to see midyears-- it doesn’t make any sense for them to admit us without knowing how we’re doing at that point of time. And I would think that the college has more say than the school - just like they have more say with score choice and stuff like that.

Thats not normal, do you attend a non public school… charter, private etc… ?

If this is true, see how many students from your school attend a university with the system your school has. See if other students think the school system harm their chances with their school choices. This may help you determine if all will probably work out as it should, or you need to attend a different high school senior year ( or at least for the first semester of senior year).

My D goes to a public HS, not only did they send out a mid year, her first quarter grades were so good, they sent out her first quarter and the midyear. I offered to pay for postage, they said no, they would fax.

Yeah I go to a public high school - #1 in Ohio and we get tons of people into top universities, so I guess it doesn’t hurt much to our general hs population. Just may make a difference for me, though.
