Senior Grades

I've heard that colleges look at your senior grades to see if you were slacking off. I want to know what kind of drops they would consider. For example, if I got straight A's for the last three years and got one B this first semester, would that be taken into consideration?

Furthermore, I have also heard that colleges recalculate GPA based on their own system. So would senior grades be taken into consideration during recalculation?

I’m curious about this too. It’s not a matter of slacking… it’s just a matter of there literally not being enough time in the day to do everything my teachers ask of me :)

my question is under the assumption of an applicant committing to regular decision.

I would like to know if they do this time because i kinda want to take it easy in senior year.

I highly doubt your admission is going to be rescinded just for one B. I think what it takes for the college to drop you though depends on what college you’re going to.

airfreshener, as soon as they have a transcript with your senior grades, it will probably be included in their calculation. They do this since many schools calculate weighted GPAs differently and it’s unfair to only look at weighted GPAs. For example, the highest possible weighted GPA at my school is a 5, but the highest possible weighted GPA at my friend’s school is a 6. It would be unfair to consider a 5 from my school as worse than a 6 from my friend’s school. The college recalculation is more or less the same as most school’s weighting probably (more for honors, even more for AP, etc.), but it just makes it uniform and standard so that they can look at fair GPAs that take into account both grade and rigor.

They will use your first semester senior grades to make RD decisions. This means slacking off first semester is a very bad idea, since it will be a factor in whether or not you are accepted. Second semester grades, however, are only used to make sure you haven’t caught a serious case of senioritis, and rescinsion is unlikely unless your grades drop drastically.

So second semester is when we can party to a reasonable extent? :)
