Senior in highschool.

Hey guys!

I’m a senior in high school who wants to attend UCR.
I have a 3.56 unweighted GPA and a 1560 SAT. ( Retaking in November, most likely 1800+)
I don’t have any extracurricular except for volunteering for a few hours. (Does power lifting count? haha.)
I was on the wrestling team for a few weeks, but then got injured so I couldn’t compete.
I took AP classes junior year, and currently are taking AP Lit / AP Stats this year, but haven’t taken any AP tests.
Does anyone know If I have a good chance in getting into UCR?

Thanks in advance!

What is your UC GPA? http://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/

Your SAT is below average for UCR (1726) but your UC GPA should be at or above the average (3.78). What is your intended major?

For the UC GPA, do I enter the amount of A’s, B’s, etc I got throughout 10th - 11th?
I’m applying for Pre - Business.

Yes you enter all grades from your a-g courses in 10-11th grade. You get 1 extra honors point for each semester of AP classes in 10-11th grade also up to maximum of 8 points. The calculator has a good explanation on how to enter the calculation.

I got a 3.75 GPA according to the calculator.
Almost at the average, but not quite yet.

If you bump up your SAT into the 1800 range, you stand a decent chance at an acceptance. Business is pretty competitive at UCR, so any extra advantage you can get will be helpful. Write some great essays and Good Luck.
Make sure you have some good backup schools just in case.

Thanks Gumbymom! Any other advice will be greatly appreciated.

What other schools are interested in applying and do you have a good safety school?

Um, I’m applying to Irvine and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. I’m still deciding on what other schools are good for business

Try SDSU, CSU Northridge, CSU Fullerton, Sonoma State, Cal poly Pomona and Chico state. UCI and SLO will be Reach schools based on stats.

I agree with @gumbymom with an 1800+ SAT and a solid personal statement, you’ve got a good shot at UCR. SLO and UCI are definitely reaches. The CSU’s she lists are all worth a look.

Honestly, SAT’s are really stressing me out because my score keeps on fluctuating. Scared I won’t be able to hit 1800.

@isWilson: All you can do is your best, apply and hope for an acceptance. Just make sure you have some solid Match and Safety schools on your list and you will end up in a good university.

@Gumbymom Do you have any recommendations for match schools? :open_mouth:

What is your Cal state eligibility index? (CSU GPA x800) + (SAT Math + CR)

SDSU, CSULB and CSU Fullerton are all worth a look.

@Gumbymom 4090. What exactly is Cal state elibilty index.

@NCalRent Thanks for the advice! Do you attend any of the schools?

All Cal states except SLO, will use the EI (Eligibility index) to rank their applicants by major. The schools then accept the highest EI down until all the spots are filled. SJSU is the only Cal State that regularly publishes their EI thresholds for each major, so it gives you a good idea of where you stand in terms of acceptances. The EI thresholds will fluctuate year to year based on the stats of the current applicant pool. Your EI of 4090 puts you right on the edge of the 4100 for SDSU, put is definitely worth an application. Their Business school is highly ranked so a good school worth pursuing. CSU Fullerton, CSU Long Beach and Cal Poly Pomona are all within your reach, so good Match schools.

I am the parent of one college student (Chico) and an high school Jr. I have visited all he UCs, most of the CSUs and spoken extensively to admissions officials and students at UCs, CSUs and CCs.
