Should I join a frat if I'm a senior who transferred to cal my junior year?

Flat out impossible IMHO.

Even sophomore is pushing it in terms of age. Sorry :(

You can–there is no age limit.

if they’re desperate enough, they may offer you a bid. never hurts to try.

Even non-desperate houses sometimes give out bids to seniors. My house used to, even when we were well-heeled, if we liked the guy enough. But being a senior, it will be much harder to find one that will take you, especially if they are getting plenty of younger prospects. I don’t know of any houses that have quotas – since no house is full, but if they have limits and it came down between you and a younger guy, they’d probably go with a younger guy.

As far as sophomore being too old, I joined my house second semester as a sophomore, so it’s not unheard of or impossible. But honestly? Junior is your last realistic chance in about 2/3 of houses if you are starting cold. If you already know someone in a house, your odds go way up – especially if they like you and you’ve been there before. Never hurts to ask. The worst thing is you have a bunch of 19 and 20 year olds tell you no.
