Senior next year, please chance; will chance back

Hey guys, I'm a long time lurker, first time poster.
I'm going to grade 12 next year and I want to know my chances and ways to improve my odds.
I'm aiming for ivies, and UPenn Wharton is my dream school.
I know all these schools are reaches for almost everyone, so I just want to know how much of a reach they are.
Thanks in advance!

Can you chance me back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1662097-international-ib-student.html</a></p>

PS: How did you become contributor for Seeking Alpha?!

^ You just have to write articles for them, that’s it haha.

Just chanced back. Thanks so much for your input! Let’s just hope that luck is on our side haha

These all seem like reaches. You have good SAT IIs; why would you retake the math?

Please chance me: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1662300-please-chance-me-for-unc-chapel-hill-duke-nc-state-clemson-wake-forest.html#latest</a>

Dartmouth,Cornell,Brown:Low reach
Columbia, Harvard, Yale, Penn (Wharton): Reach

I think as far as academics and extracurriculars go, you have amazing shots at all the colleges listed; however because of your status as an international, with a high income and your race your chances might not be as good as they should. Just make sure you score well on the SATs (which I’m sure you will considering your other test scores) and keep that gpa up senior year. Good luck with Wharton!!

Assuming you do well on your SATs,
Cornell and Brown: low reach
Dartmouth and Penn: low reach/mid reach
Harvard, Princeton, Yale, and Colombia: reach
Great ec’s and test scores, good luck!

Hey! Thanks for chancing me! I think as long as you do well on your SATs I think you will be a competitive applicant at all of the Ivy Leagues but those schools are very unpredictable and it is hard for me to guess which one/s you could get into. You have a great GPA, (I am assuming you took a very rigorous course load? Or at least took advantage of your school’s classes) and your SAT IIs are fine, don’t worry about retaking the math. Also, I think your ECs are very focused and eccentric to your respective interest so just write killer essays, which I am sure you will. And most importantly, try and find something about yourself that stands out! Being Asian might hurt you so try and find something about you that’s unique and write about it so that you will stand out to adcoms. Good luck this fall and I am sure you will do great!

It’s hard to tell without SATs, but it looks like you’ll get a pretty great score. If you can get an extremely stellar score, that definitely won’t hurt. I mean these schools are reaches for everyone, so I’d say pick your favorites and pick a safety or two and you’ll be all set. I’d be shocked if you didn’t get into at least one or two of the Ivies, and if you show enough interest and pursue it enough, I honestly don’t think Wharton is out of the question. Unfortunately, being a relatively well-off international Asian male isn’t going to help your apps, but it certainly won’t hurt them either, obviously you can’t control those things. But hey, I wish you best of luck! You have a great app and I think you could get into any of these schools, the problem is there are always so many qualified students that it does kinda come down to the littlest details. Feel free to chance me back! http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1662557-chance-me-sub-ivies-good-schools.html?new=1</a></p>

thank you for chancing me! although your status as an Asian international student is not very advantageous, your high grades and well rounded ECs is by far a lot more superior to many students even in the U.S. so i don’t think you need to worry that much! you definitely sound ivy league material but just in case, you should look into liberal arts colleges too. many ivy league material people i knew who somehow did not get into ivies got full ride scholarships to top private liberal colleges like Amherst or Weslyan. good luck!

As long as you follow through on your SATs and get a high score, I think UPENN is a serious possibility. You seem like you’ll really stand out due to your unique ECs/international status However, no one can count on an ivy, no matter how strong of an applicant you are. If you’re interested in Philly, Haverford College is in the suburbs of the city, and is a prestigious liberal arts school that you should check out!
