Senior picture tips! :-)

So what with all the Chances, SAT prep, AP test prep, and college threads I've used CC for, I decided to ask a question a little less nerdy.

My senior pictures session is tomorrow- any tips on outfits, make-up, props, whether I should even buy them... etc?

please don't overload on the makeup
ugh
I hate that

(sorry, I saw many makeup-masks today)

and don't wear too complicated of an outfit. simple, neat, and flattering, is always best

Solid colors. And dress like you're taking a picture, not going to Walmart. You wouldn't believe some of my school's senior pictures.

oh wow. You take htem early. Our pictures are only in October and we have specific uniforms we need to wear for them.

I'd have to agree with snoopy. Do something simple and elegant with no designs on it. I would stay away from stripes and patterns too.

lol. I skipped senior portraits this year and decided to just take it in the fall.

Ours are in August. and everyone has a special black...shawl type thing that they wear on their shoulders. It exposes your neck, so most people wear a necklace because otherwise they look kinda....bare.

Um, don't wear too much makeup, be natural! Leave your hair down and wear a necklace or some small earrings.

Girls: NO MAKEUP. Unless you need a little pick me up. But don't go trying to look like the guys from Kiss.

Guys: Don't wear a t-shirt with something on it underneath your white shirt like I did...if you look really hard on the one photo of me without a sport coat on you can see my Ohio State t-shirt a little bit...

Actually, you should wear more makeup than normal, because it looks really nice in these photos. They will touch them up, and it's easier when you're wearing makeup that makes everything smooth.

Wear your hair like you normally do, every year there's girls who do huge curls, or flat iron it so straight it just looks terrible. Go with your natural, it always looks best.

I think that your guys' senior pictures are different that how my school does it.
At my school, doing your senior picture is completely up to you. Most people go to one local business, and he has different props.
I agree with something simple, and only slightly nicer than normal.

AFPrep- haha :-)

thanks! i decided on some outfits and figured out what i'm going to do with my hair/makeup (yeah, straightened but i have voluminous hair so it shouldn't look too flat).

My school actually does 2 senior pictures. One is the "official" picture, with the guys wearing tuxedos and the girls put on the this shirt-type thingy. The other is completely up to you; you go to a business and take fancy pictures. I think the school pays for both. And yet my school doesn't know what an olympiad is.

wear something simple and classy with pearls, etc.
do wear some makeup, but light so that it enchances your features. ie. if you're fair-skinned, maybe a bit of shimmer bronzer with lipgloss, white eyeshadow... etc

getting your eyebrows done is always good.

black lipstick and bleached mullet with spikes in front

^ HAHAHA...

Pearls always look nice. Also, wear more neutral make-up. I have seen girls with green eye shadow and boy, that looks TERRIBLE in these photos. Don't curl your hair [or straighten], unless you're sure that it'll turn out well. I think that as long as you look natural, it'll turn out fine.

I feel inclined to repeat this: don't go overboard with the makeup! :) Bright green, red, or blue eyeshadow just comes out looking weird.

And some people might feel differently, but I don't think people should make their hair look too extravagant. It just seems odd to me, to look so done up for a photo. Curling straight hair looks nice, but really fancy beauty salon-esque hairdos look out of place to me. Looking natural is best; that's how people will remember you as, anyway.

And wear a necklace that will show up! I just wore the necklace that I have on everyday, but the pendant isn't that big, so the necklace didn't look noticeable.

as basically a photo editor of my school's yearbook:

smile like you're happy (think of the best thing that always makes you smile!), not just a crazy wide awkward smile and DO NOT do a smirk! Smirks look cute enough in person, but seem really strange in a yearbook photo.

Take practice shots with your hair in different styles-see what you like best...most people look good with hair let down...& for clothles, make sure it is very neutral, blah. You want people to look at you, and not say, WHAT IS SHE WEARING? Also, don't wear a necklace-this rarely looks good and can ruin a good shot.

I ended up going with a black polo and pearls. I definitely foundation-ed my face but whatever it takes to look nice for the picture right? The one thing I would say (having finished them!) is I wish I hadn't got my hair cut a week ago and have just-above-the-shoulder layers- they were always falling into my face, and probably not in a good way... hopefully the pictures will look okay!

Smile. Dress nicely and comfortably. Be yourself...and that means dress how you want to, don't overload on the makeup (as others have mentioned), and just be happy? Haha. This seems like unusual advice.

i dont think you should wear pearls, theylook kind of old
no one does at my school

oh i thin kwhen people tilt their head in the photo or gaze off into the distance it looks kind of out of place
