I will be a senior next year and I am currently registering for classes! I want to have a rigorous schedule but I also dont want to overload myself with AP's. I have the option to take AP Lit or British Lit, or no english at all. I am also taking AP Bio, AP Statistics, and AP Macroeconomics. I also want to take AP Psych online (my school doesn't offer the class).
Should I take AP Lit, AP Psych, or both??
PLEASE HELP

AP Macroeconomics isn’t difficult. Don’t worry about that. Granted, it has to be mostly with understanding the concept, such as how supply affects demand, vice-versa, etc.

AP Biology is brute memorization. Not much work involved. Just read and memorize.

Never took AP Stats, but apparently, it’s a fairly challenging AP course. Doable, just challenging.

AP Psychology is also brute memorization. If you’ve ever taken an AP history course (ex. AP US History) and did well in it, you’ll be fine. AP Psychology was one of the easiest AP courses I ever took.

I don’t know how it’ll work in conjunction with all your other AP courses, since having a bunch of them leads to a massive workload regardless of the difficulty of the classes.

AP Literature is also fairly challenging, and you DO get a lot of work from the class. If you’re good at managing time and don’t procrastinate, I don’t see any problem with taking both AP Lit and AP Psych. You’re just gonna have a lot to read, memorize, and write.

But since you’re a rising senior, I think you should just give yourself some breathing room and knock off one of them. If it were me, I would just choose AP Psych or AP Lit; not both.

Take them both! Its super common now for students to be taking a ton of APs in one year. If they survived I’m sure you’ll be fine! Nothing is really ever as difficult as it sounds. Challenge yourself!

You should definitely take AP lit. AP psych isnt necessary but go for it if you ahve the time/desire.

I must ask, do you have a sincere interest in all of those choices? If you are interested in literature definitely go for AP Lit, especially because it would improve your writing skills which you will need for college, in life even. As for AP Psych, does it truly interest you? The class does require learn a lot of material, not memorizing, but learning. That is the key to success, you don’t memorize your mistakes you learn from them. If you think you can handle that, then I say “why not”? Go for it! As stated before, there will be a lot of work, but when isn’t there work to do? The things you will gain from a class like AP Psych will surprise you, just take a risk. Focus on the material you’ll be learning and if you can get at least a “B” by working hard, then good. If not, as long as you know you gave it your all and gave it nothing but your BEST. If reading and writing are your strong suit, then take both. Message me if you’d like. Good luck & best wishes!

Psych is a decent class, and not incredibly difficult. I wouldn’t waste it on an online course, I’d wait for college.

theconformist is right. I would just suggest to take only one, you should enjoy your senior year to the fullest as you can.

In your shoes, I would choose AP English Literature, it’ll prepare you for rigorous reading and critical writing on college probably. AP Psychology is honestly a pointless class unless if you’re going to do a major that has to do with it. (I’m a sophomore and I have AP Psych now, it isn’t hard, just A LOT of terms to know)

Plus look at this, would you rather get rid (at average from colleges) a year of English or Psychology? Think about it.

If you’re willing to do both, be my guest. Just make sure to live your last year of high school and just maybe even you’re last year of whatever area you live in.

AP Psych is easy and fun (so far). Not too much work

If you didn’t choose yet, definitely choose AP Psychology over AP English Literature. AP Psychology is less work and much more interesting. AP English Literature is useless and unless you like literature and/or you are confident you can get a 5 on the exam, it is a waste of time.

AP Lit is definitely one of the most challenging AP classes, but I think it is waaaay more valuable than AP Psych. I guess the real question is what you intend to do in college. If psychology is your major, you may not get credit for it at your college, since they’ll want you to take their course. All colleges I know of have an English requirement though, so you can feasibly get credit to free up your schedule. This would let you take a psych class with a teacher, classmates, and I imagine that would be more interesting than taking it online. However, I would probably talk to your guidance counselor about it, since they probably have more insight than a bunch of kids that don’t know your school.
