Hello! I'm just gonna dive right in.
I am not a fan of math. The science courses at my school aren't really appealing to me..
soooo, as of right now my senior schedule looks like this:

Social Justice (religion requirement)
Studies in British Drama and Poetry
AP Government
AP Psychology
Honors LEAD (learning, engineering, and design)
Dance (pe requirement)/ Public Speaking and Dramatic Performance
Honors Wind Ensemble

my junior schedule is this:
Morality
AP English Language and Composition
Photo Journalism 1
Honors Anatomy and Physiology
Honors PreCalculus
AP US History
Wind Ensemble

Summer between soph/junior i took: Trigonometry

my sohpomore year was this:
Christ of Faith
Honors Chemistry
Spanish 2
Concert Band
Honors English
AP World History
Geometry

and my freshman year was this:
Scriptures
Health/P.E.
Honors Biology
Honors Algebra 2
Honors English
Concert Band
Spanish 1

(sorry if that was a lot to read.. this is my first post)
I'm not plannning on going into anything involving math/science..I'm leaning toward the performing arts/tv/film/media.. I'm not really looking at any Ivies (maybe Yale for their drama but I'm not seriously considering it)..So is it a big deal that my senior schedule does not include a math?? I'm taking 2 APs and 2 Honors..not to mention all my extracurriculars (art club, drama club, ambassadors club, altar serving, lacrosse, field hockey, etc.) Would it seem to you that my schedule seems "lacking"?

Sweet, another performing arts person! I don’t think I’ll actually use much math when I get to college but I’m taking Pre-Calc just to be on the safe side (my school system is screwed up, so it’s common to take Pre-calc senior year). Then again, I’m only taking 1 AP and 0 honors classes, AND you’ve already taken Pre-Calc, so I don’t think you have much to worry about. I’d say you’re set!

[What colleges, not me, might see]:

Your schedule appears to lack consistency. You only took Spanish for 2 years and dropped it and switched from Concert Band to Wind Ensemble. Also, there are several random electives, not really followed-up on, that are simply sitting there. I suggest that on applications you explain why you chose those classes. Also, you went from Honors Algebra 2 to normal Geometry and back up, so explain why you did that. Lastly, I think it would be could to mention the lacking of STEM courses to make up for the lack of STEM AP’s, otherwise colleges would be wondering why you shied away from the truly significant classes that they want to see like AP Physics C, AP Bio, AP Chem, AP US History [You are taking this one, so nice job], AP Calculus, etc.

Good Luck!

Many colleges would like to see some kind of math senior year. However, if for some reason the only math options you have left are AP ones and you think they’re going to hurt your grades, I wouldn’t take them. If there is some other sort of math option for you senior year though, I definitely recommend you take it. Also, if your school doesn’t offer a lot of science options, your admissions counselors will most likely know that once you apply. Admissions counselors often know their territories and the schools in them extremely well. Also, most schools require a guidance counselor evaluation/recommendation as part of their application. The evaluation usually includes the types of courses your school offers and whether or not your counselor feels you challenged yourself based off of the courses offered.
I strongly recommend you take math your senior year, but otherwise, your course load is fine.

(Thanks that was a really great perspective to hear from)
About concert band to wind ensemble…wind ensemble is the higher level of band classes… I was in concert band for 2 years ( I switched from flute to percussion 3/4 into my freshmn yr…so I had to work on a lot), then worked harder learning more about percussion so tht I could be in wind ensemble this year.
About the random electives…
Spanish ( required two yrs…needed my tech cred so I dropped it to take photo journalism)
Photo Journalism aka Yearbook… this class was way more than I expected… took it for a tech credit… required a lot of work (we finally finished the entire book today whoop…can’t wait til its in print ahah) and I learned a lot of journalism skills…
for my senior yr sched…I want to take public speaking& dram. arts because this is the ONLY class my school has that related to performing/communicating…
and LEAD…its an engineering class and it actually looks very interesting and id learn basic engineering skills in it (I have no intention of becoming an engineer) as well as design principles, etc…
Intermediate Dance because I need a PE credit…and I’ve been dancing since I was little :)

Are these explanations sufficient (to a college admissions perspective)?

(thanks for the help!)
well, the only math options for my senior year are:
AP Calc BC (bring my grade down)
AP Calc AB (bring my grade down)
AP Statistics (considering…I mean it would help w/ AP Pysch…but idk if it would help or hinder my grade)
Math Applications ( “comprehensive study of the main topics found in math that are essential to the understanding of, and the functioning in, our contemporary world. Students will learn how math can be applied to their lives in a meaningful and enjoyable way and used to solve problems in their everyday livesm Quantitative reasoning, logic, number theory, algebra, geometry, statistics, and many other real-world relevant topics are covered.”) wanted to take, but its a regular class only

and technically, wouldn’t an engineering class (LEAD) be considered a science?

that wink above wasn’t supposed to be there…awkward ahaha

The explanations are very good…

…but the math thing isn’t too good. Colleges have said countless times that they want a kid with a 3.8 and 9 AP’s to a kid with a 4.0 and no AP’s. Try one of those Math AP’s

…Also, AP Stats is a very easy class, will not hinder your grade, and according to CC, is like a guaranteed 5 [Take with a grain of salt].

BTW, what were your previous AP scores?

whoops sorry I just saw this. my previous scores weren’t as well as I’d hoped but theyre still good. all 3’s

I would recommend taking AP Stats. An intro engineering course really won’t make up for a lack of math AND science senior year, and that will eliminate a lot of options when it comes to college choices. AP Stats doesn’t even feel like real math if that makes you feel any better!
