Senior Schedule

Hello everyone, I hope you are all having a nice day. I have a question regarding my senior year schedule. I really want to major in civil engineering and I’m really torn about my schedule. This is the way I have it right now:

1st Semester: (no particular order)

Health
Macro Eco AP
Pre Cal PAP (Honors)
Soccer
Advisory
Engineering Design
English 4 AP
8th per Early off

2nd Semester: (no particular order)

US Gov AP
Pre Cal PAP (Honors)
Soccer
Advisory
Engineering Design
English 4 AP
7th per Early off
8th per Early off

From what I’ve been reading, colleges look at the type of classes that you take in high school that pertain to your intended major (civil engineering). I mainly took a period off in the 1st semester as I’m still writing my college essays and heard that they take up a lot of time. However, part of me thinks that I should drop Early off for a class such as Physics AP or Comp Sci., do you guys have any suggestions of what I should do? Thank you for your replies!

P.S. I’ve already taken English Lang AP, Statistics, WHAP, and US History AP. Would 7-8 APs be considered “rigorous coursework”?

Thank you guys and have a great day!

The number of AP classes you take in order to have a “rigorous schedule” depends on how many are offered:

If you take 8 AP classes and your school offers 20, then it’s not really rigorous.
If your school only offers only 8, or even up to something like 10, then that’s rigorous.
And if your school offers less than the AP tests you take (say, 6) then it’s super good if you pass a test without the class (although I dunno how often students do that so that’s not something you should look into unless you really want to take an AP class not offered at your school).

So, are you interested in AP Physics / CS? You should be taking the classes that you WANT, not the classes that you think “look good” to colleges. And if you decide to leave the 7th period blank, just make sure you’re doing something good with your time.

Good luck with your college application!

Thank you so much for your reply @MasterLillyclaw ! My problem was that I really wanted to take Comp Sci, but I didn’t think I had the time for it. I think I’m going to go ahead and take it because I know it’ll help me in the future. I think I can survive without one of the off periods
