Senior Scheduling Issues

I had trouble getting all my classes in, and might not be able to get into Physics honors. So I have a couple questions...

I will most likely be taking AP environmental science, ap calc BC, AP econ (macro/micro) and AP Spanish language. My second half of the day gets complicated. Right now I am hoping to get into Physics honors, but if I don't I will either have to choose AP stat or AP chem. I would also like to complete an independent study (I will use this period to create a portfolio of newspaper stories. Probably extensive-ish features on events, people, places, etc.), even though I've heard it doesn't look as good as a class.

I've heard that AP chem is a very difficult class, and really do not want to take it. However, I am interested in both physics and statistics. Math is my strength, and I'm already in 4 APs. That sounds like enough, not sure if I want to throw in AP chem too. From what I've heard, colleges like to see that a student has taken physics.

What looks better for colleges: Physics honors, AP stat, or should I challenge myself and take AP chem?

Is an independent study a bad idea, or should I take another class (like business principles honors, which would be very very boring)? I would truly enjoy the ind. study.

Thank you for any input.

EDIT: I am looking to go to Northwestern, Georgetown, Cornell - a school on that level.

Selective colleges often recommend that you take 4 years of lab science courses. Physics is consider a key lab science course, and is often “strongly recommended” by selective colleges such as those on your list.

Of “Physics honors, AP stat, or AP chem”, Physics is the best choice.

You can always send an email to admissions at one or two of the colleges on your list to get their recommendation of what you should do. Provide them with a summary of the math and science courses that you’ve taken through junior year, and the math and science choices that are available to you for senior year.

I agree with fogcity. Physics is the option that looks the “best.”

If you aren’t accepted into the Physics Honors program, then I suggest you pursue AP stats and also your independent study program.
