I'm already accepted to a high regarded college through early decision. Throughout my freshman-junior year, I kept up almost straight A's, but after my acceptance, I have caught a severe case of ... SENIORITIS. How low is low? I heard there have been cases in which students who have been accepted through early decision have been rejected because of failing semester grades.
I am just barely managing B's for my semester grades (My classes are all AP). Would a C completely kill my chances at the university?
I would greatly appreciate any comments on this matter; I'. worried just a tad bit.

Depends on what university

Even at a place like Harvard, i don't think a C would kill you. The college might put you on academic probation (not excatly sure how it works), but rescinding admissions is pretty rare for colleges. With all B's, you should be ok. I think D's are what colleges really worry about.

How much a C is bad on first senior semester transcript for a RD applicant?

christalena2: It is University of Virginia

pacers: Could you go a little in depth on "academic probation?" Just a gist of it?

water: I heard it depends on your college. From what I've read, some colleges put ridiculous emphasis on Senior grades, whereas some colleges do the opposite, for they know senioritis hits some earlier than others. good luck!

anyone else??

UC's want 3.0 UW, with no D's or F'd

is that just for the senior grade or overall highschool gpa until senior year?

You need to keep a B average for UVA. You should of kept working up until the end of the first semester like me. All As 1st semester + all Cs 2nd = B average...although I highly doubt I'll drop that low. I'm doing RD btw. Are you in fairfax county?

3.0 for senior year.

SignmaCentauri: Yes, I regret I didn't work harder first semester. But keeping B average will not be that hard. So just as long as my GPA is 3.0, it will not matter even if I have 5 A's and 2 C's?
BTW where did you hear this information?
o and yes, I live in fairfax county.

lol...let me clarify...3.0 WEIGHTED for ucs lol =D and most other colleges accept cs for senior year also once accepted

My friends who did ED said they had to keep a 3.0 (which I agree is easy especially with AP credit which I forgot about <_<). What school do you go to?

Ahh my senioritis is so bad...I have NO motivation whatsoever!!

The teachers and counselors at my daughter's school read the seniors the Riot Act recently about keeping up their grades and staying out of trouble. Actually, they read parts of acceptance rescission, warning, merit scholarship rescission, and other dire letters from a host of colleges, all received by or about previous students. There weren't enough actual details given for the students to be able to decide how far they could go before any particular college would take action, but, judging from what was quoted, colleges can and do come down hard on some applicants who really slip up. One teacher said, "A lot of these schools could easily fill the class several times over with qualified students that they reject. If you don't want the space, someone else -- maybe even one of your classmates -- really does. The colleges want to enroll students who are interested in being there. Don't make it easy for them to give your place to someone else."

Pretty sobering. Even many of the kids who are waiting for regular decision already have serious senioritis.

Haha - actually a kid in my grade sdid something really inappropriate, so he's likely to be suspended or expelled. Nice way to go out AFTER you've applied to colleges in your SENIOR YEAR!! So he'll have to send all the colleges he applied to a letter saying, "Hey, my year's going great, you're my first choice, oh, and by the way, I got expelled!"

In response to mochamaven: "Ahh my senioritis is so bad...I have NO motivation whatsoever!!"

This coming from a kid going to Yale, accepted EA, probably one of the top 3 hardest admissions out there. America's brightest. Haha.

fhimas, what'd the kid do?

There's actually been a debate on the UC thread as to whether the UC 3.0 is weighted or unweighted. I don't have the answer to the question, but I thought I'd mention it.

^^ He posted on facebook on two girls' walls in our grade that he wanted to quote "rape them and **** them," and would kill them if they told the administration.

Dude it's 3.0 UNWEIGHTED, TRUST ME, my sister (4 years ago) during her senior year got a personal letter from UCLA saying that she must abide by the contract and earn a 3.0 UNWEIGHTED to attend the fall semester. I don't know why people are saying 3.0 WEIGHTED, that is a lie.
