Senior Semester/Midterm Grades for Midyear

Hi!

I have been an all A student for the last three years and that is what shows on my transcript. This year, however for the midyear I have a

B in AP Physics C quarter 1
B in AP Government Quarter 2
B in Physics C overall.

Quarter grades show up in my transcript, but the gpa is only based on classes that have been completed for the semester (so I will still have a 4.0).

how do you think this will bear for admissions at HPYSM, etc.?

If you applied ED, they would see your first Q grades, but it seems you would not be asking this question if you applied ED as you would already know. Most likely, for regular decision, HPYSM would only see your semester grades, so hopefully you have been kicking butt 2nd Quarter so that your semester grades are closer to what you’ve done up until senior year. If you haven’t taken AP classes until now, it will suggest you had A’s only until you took AP classes, but you couldn’t handle the tougher course load. If you are a fall sport athlete and also won some music or science competition in the fall and therefore lost temporary site of the academics, they may not care as much as long as your overall semester is still strong. The best thing you can do is fix your grades back to A’s.

Keep in mind, even if you have all A’s, it may not mean you get in, but A’s always help with a school of this level of selectivity, as long as the course rigor is challenging.

Thanks for all of that wonderful information snowflake.

I’m finishing 17 AP courses (with 5 ap and 2 community college courses for senior year first semester). My semester grades will be all a’s with a b in physics. Do you think that will compensate for my bs as quarter grades (although I know that it is not as good as all as!)
