Senior. Undecided. Worried.

Hey. I'm a senior and I still don't have a college to go to. I have a 3.0, 20 ACT, 8 on the Essay with no extracurricullar activities. I'm retaking the ACT and hopefully will do better. I've taken few honor classes and no aps. I want to major in either Economy or Journalism and I can go to any college out or in. I live in Florida, btw. I've been looking for schools for a long time but still am undecided. Can someone give me some advice. I don't want to skip a year of college.

With your stats, it looks like a state or community college will be your best match. Are there schools in your area you're interested in, or are you wanting something out-of-state?

Well I want the best school I can get into. One in the east coast, preferably. I want to stay away from community college if that is possible. Thanks for the response.

what state are you in?

You have lots of options! Trust me, a cc isn't even an option if you don't want it to be! Any specifics about what you're looking for?

What about FSU?

its funny that people are saying that someone with a 3.0 gpa should go to a CC

since when is a B average that bad

there are a lot of schools that are SAT/ACT optional also

I was thinking of FSU but I want other options just in case i don't get in. My dad is from the north (ny) and said he wouldn't mind going back, so the northeast is also an option but I don't know about schools up there (there's a stereotype about the north being smarter so I thought u's up there are better) . As for specs, just a U. where they have a good econ. program and have a good student body (safe, different cultures, nice).

I'm from florida. Lived here for around 14 years.

Thanks for the feedback.

you could consider Hofstra and Adelphi, both on long island (NY) and you could probably get into both

I don't know if you want to come out to California, but I'd say you'd be a great fit somewhere in the CSU system. Pretty easy acceptance in a lot of great places: San Francisco State, Long Beach State, San Diego State, and many more. I know off the top of my head that the acceptance rate at SFSU is over 70% and you'd get in. The application has no essays or anything and takes only 20-30min. One problem: CSU apps are due midnight Nov 30, so think fast!!!

Throw out the stats: I just looked up the admittance numbers for the CSU system. Chico State and Fresno State are good schools with admit rates of 80% and 95% respectively. SFSU: about 70% and SDSU: about 50%

ckmets, it's not so much the gpa as the act score...but Simple Mind, if you can bring that up, that would help you a lot.

average schools will take a chance on someone with a 3.0 but a low ACT score

What should I aim for in the act? And how greatly will it affect my chances at a school in/out? Thanks for th responses, btw.

You can get into a bunch of Florida colleges

UWF...USF...UNF...UCF

Well I sort of know that i can get into some colleges but I want a couple of good matches or a few reasonable reaches. The colleges I can get into don't excite me but I will look into colleges listed above. Thanks for the responses.

Temple

William Patterson

monmouth

montclair state (NJ)

If paying out of state tuition isn't a problem possibly try:

Auburn
Univerity of Alabama
Birmingham Southern (expensive, probably a reach also)
South Alabama

I would practice the ACT and aim for a 25 if at all possible. I believe with your GPA and a 25 you would have a great shot at all of the schools I just mentioned as well as FSU, UCF and the other major Florida schools.

Also, if you havn't already looked at it UWF is a great school. I live right across the street from the school and all of the students seem to love it. Also if you spend two years there you may be able to transfer to a bigger school such as UF.

What are my chances at FSU with my stats? Is going to an ok school now and transferring to a better school possible?

Note: The reason I have a 3.0 is because i goofed off at the beginning of high school but now i maintain a gpa well above 3.0 so in college I hope to start off good and maintain a high gpa.
