SENIOR WEEKEND 2007 .. for free?

Did anyone else get the senior weekend invitation, where they're paying for travel/dorms/meals etc?

I'm confused b/c it said that to get it, you had to either be low-income, from a bad school, or in a community outreach program (like upward bound or MESA). I'm upper-middleclass, I go to one of the best public schools in CA, and I'm not in any such program.

??

Oh well, I'm not complaining. :P Who else is going?

which program were you invited for?

i saw it saying sleeping bags. do we get to sleep in a dorm or what is the plan? well im just excited. hope i get in

I am hosting students the weekend of the 14/15th of April (I think that's Senior Weekend) and 20-22 for Alumni Scholar applicants.

isnt it the 19th-21st?

Yeah, I think it's 19th-21st. I really hope it ends early because I have to be in Long Beach Harbor by 7:30 in formal dress lol.

Senior Weekend is an event hosted by the five Recruitment and Retention Centers on campus, organizations that represent underrepresented ethnic groups on campus and are funded by the Admissions Office. One of the RCC's primary functions is hosting Senior Weekend each year, traditionally inviting students from disadvantaged or underrepresented schools.

Accepted students are provided free airfare to campus, and spend the weekend with their sponsoring organizations. Students are housed in volunteering students' dorms or apartments, whichever is available. This program is NOT the same thing as OHP (Overnight Host Program), and for a current student to host, he/she must specifically contact one of the RCCs.

The timing of this event has been coordinated to align with Cal Day, though Cal Day is not a central focus of Senior Weekend.

i was invited to that as well and i'm not sure why... i'm middle class, haven't participated in any outreach programs, my school's API score is not low, and i'm not of a minority. oh well, i'm not complaining :)

ttgiant15: Actually, Senior Weekend is coordinated by 6 RCCs this year (with the addition of the Mixed Student Union) and in collaboration with the Overnight Host Program.

Those involved with Senior Weekend are: Raza, BRRC, MSU, PASS, REACH, NAO. The Overnight Host Program (coordinated by New Student Services) works in collaboration with the RCCS. These seven organizations join together for Senior Weekend and report to Admissions and Enrollment.

Are all these groups coming Cal Day weekend? I think I am hosting the weekend before Cal Day also? Or have I gotten dates screwed up?

well cal day is the last day of senior weekend

CA2006 - Cal Day is April 21. ASA is doing Overnight Stay Programs April 12-13, April 20-21 and then April 22-23.

sweetdreams: I have to do Alumni Scholars too....I have 2 students each of those dates! I also on my calendar that I am hosting students on the weekend of April 13/14.... don't remember which group asked me to host or maybe I have something wrong... or does anyone know?

It says 'sleeping bags'. Do we sleep on the floor? :o

Haha wellll.. anyone else going there from LAX?

im using LAX but i am from orange county. does getting that invite ensure that you get to go? has anyone received any updates or news about the senior weekend? its in less than 3 weeks.

i faxed my waiver in on friday, but haven't heard anything. they were closed friday, and assumably weren't working yesterday or today, so maybe we'll hear tomorrow...

oh yeah i totally forgot that they were closed friday.

We have received your waiver of liability form. Your request is being carefully considered for the limited spaces available in the bridges Senior Weekend Program. Please check daily for updated information. Your request...

has anyone been accepted already?
